The Wand by We-Vibe is going to be on a lot of Valentine’s Day wishlists.
Many of We-Vibe’s offerings are considered the best in their category, like the mighty bullet vibe Tango and the innovative couple’s vibe Chorus. We-Vibe’s designs are (generally) attractive, body-safe, and offer pleasingly rumbly vibrations. Their frequent addition of remotes and app compatibility show they recognize the evolving needs of sex toy users. A wand vibrator from We-Vibe has been a daydream shared by most sex toy bloggers for years.
Named simply “Wand by We-Vibe,” We-Vibe’s first entry into the realm of wand vibrators is a flat eggplant purple, and has a curved handle and joystick controls. Head to handle tip, this toy is 12 inches tall. It’s fully waterproof – a rarity for wands – and rechargeable, which means you’re not tethered to an outlet during use.
The Wand has 10 settings (1 steady setting and 9 patterns) that you can increase and decrease the intensity of. It comes with two attachments for additional stimulation options: a ring of flapping silicone tabs, and a pliant stroker for penises.
You can find the Wand by We-Vibe on SheVibe ($170 USD) or Peepshow Toys ($179 USD.)
So what do I think of the Wand by We-Vibe? And how does it compare to the Magic Wand Rechargeable?
Quick Post Navigation
wand by we-vibe’s design
We-Vibe wants to make good toys. This shows in the Wand’s small but thoughtful deviations from standard wand design.
The Wand’s head is more oblong than its most obvious competitor, the Magic Wand Rechargeable, but it’s the same width. This means you get broader coverage but it’s not any bulkier than the MWR. My big ass thighs are grateful! Additionally, the neck has very little flex to it. Limited bending means being able to press the head firmly against your junk; I prefer this pressure because I think it distributes vibrations better/deeper. The head is mostly firm with a smidge of squish at the very top.
I’m in love with the We-Vibe Wand’s handle. The Magic Wand gets well-deserved criticism for having a heavy and unwieldy handle. Magic Wands have been falling and crushing the toes of sex toy aficionados for decades. The We-Vibe Wand – while certainly no feather – is less than half as heavy as its competitor. Its handle tucks in like a corseted silhouette and sweeps into a curve that’s legitimately ergonomic. While the Wand’s handle isn’t as long as the Sola Sync’s, it’s easier for me to hold.
I usually hold wand handles at the base so I can press down harder. (This also lets me relax my arm across my stomach instead of holding it up while I’m masturbating.) I can do this with the Wand by We-Vibe, which even has some etched texturing in the silicone for lubey-fingered grasping.
But I prefer to hold the handle in the middle, with my thumb supporting the inner curve and my index finger on the joystick. My partner holds it the same way but in reverse, with the handle’s curve tip pointing towards their legs. Both ways feel comfortable and natural.
I’m legitimately impressed by this toy’s design. It feels good to hold and isn’t like wielding a power tool, something I can’t really say about other full-size wands I own.
the we-vibe wand’s controls
The Wand by We-Vibe has three controls. There’s a round button for turning it on and off (and for pairing it with the app – more on that later.) There’s a button for initiating and clicking through the Wand’s optional pattern settings, marked by a squiggle. Both of these buttons are recessed into the silicone, and were difficult for me to discern in use. They make cleaning it easier though. Then there’s the power joystick, which controls the intensity of the steady speed or pattern you’ve chosen. There aren’t many control switches on sex toys, so I was cautiously excited for the Wand’s. You can either click it repeatedly to increase/decrease the power (which takes foreverrrr), or take the easier and faster route and just hold it down until it hits your preferred speed. The biggest downside to the joystick is that it’s stiff and requires a firm push to move.
vibrations and rumble: how strong is the wand by we-vibe?
If like me, you were hoping We-Vibe’s Wand would be stronger than the champ of rechargeables – the Magic Wand Rechargeable – then I’m sorry to disappoint you. At its highest level, the Wand doesn’t even match the MWR’s third setting.
Wand by We-Vibe’s vibrations are interesting. They’re definitely rumbly, but they don’t have the same muscle as the MWR. The Wand’s vibrations don’t shake my junk down to the bone from clit to asshole, as esteemed power royalty expects from a full-size wand. (Why else do we reach for something the size of a small power tool?) The rumbliness of the vibrations feel choppy and fluttery; on the higher speeds they’re not the full Tango-esque muscled thumpiness I was dreaming of. The Wand by We-Vibe’s vibrations feel like a bigger, broad-surfaced PalmPower Rechargeable, but not quite as strong.
Does that mean the Wand’s vibrations are bad? Not at all!Contrary to my butthole-shuddering proclamation, I do know folks who like wand sex toys mostly for the wider surface coverage and handled grip. They never go past the second setting on their Magic Wand.
Wand by We-Vibe starts off with a low, rumbly purr that does feel like a sized-up Tango. (The vibration loses nuance as you get to higher speeds.) My sex drive has been shit lately and honestly, it’s really satisfying to be seduced into physical arousal by the grumbling lowest settings. The fact that I can increase the power gradually with the joystick means I’m fully in control of my ascent to orgasm. I love the MWR, but the big jumps in power between its 4 settings have resulted in a lot of rushed, subpar orgasms.
The patterns are, you know, patterns. You’ve got your ramp-ups, your pulses, your vrrm-stops. Lucky for those of us who have a disproportionately aggressive dislike of pattern settings, they’re quarantined to their own button.
how discreet is the wand by we-vibe?
The Magic Wand Rechargeable sounds like a waspy, humming drill on its highest setting. It’s noisy, kinda grating, and it’s not really “randomly wandering housemates” friendly. If your roommate has seen more than one episode of the CrashPad Series, they probably know what’s going on in your room.
The Wand by We-Vibe is definitely quieter than the MWR. It’s an admittedly low bar for anything except actual power tools. I’ve found that the Wand’s actual sound makes the big difference here. It sounds like an idling pickup truck. The low-pitched, distinctly automotive grumble just isn’t as jarring as the MWR’s buzzing.
And then there’s Smart Silence.
the smart silence feature
“Smart Silence” is a new feature from We-Vibe, and one I hope to see it adapted by others even if I don’t use it myself. The Wand is touch-sensitive, so if you either pull the head away from your body, or remove your hand from the handle, the vibrations stop.
For anyone with housemates or children, this feature is a fuckin’ godsend. Wands are powerful, and power is loud. When the orgasm-ruining goblins you live with abruptly materialize outside your door, all you have to do is drop your hand or lift the wand and the thunder betwixt your thighs is immediately silenced. No more frantic fumbling with buttons. No more picking gentler vibes because a wand is too risky.
There’s just one problem: We-Vibe doesn’t tell you how to turn Smart Silence off.
My first few sessions with the We-Vibe Wand were… frustrating, as I navigated this new feature. Raising my hand to rotate my bad wrist? Rrrr-*dead*. Rocking my hips and accidentally losing contact for half a second? Rrr-*dead*. Moving my hand so my partner could take over the controls? Rrr-*dead*–rrrrrr. The power comes back on as soon as I touch it again, but ugh! I hate most pattern settings on vibrators because there’s pauses, so it’s no surprise these brief lapses in power are jarring enough to make me grind my teeth. With no way to turn it off, it was like getting stuck with a wand that randomly switched to patterns if you didn’t hold still.
Luckily, there are two (unadvertised) ways to turn it off.
how do you turn off the wand by we-vibe smart silence?
There are two ways you can only turn Smart Silence off. The first is with We-Vibe’s app, We-Connect.
If you’re already familiar with bluetooth, connecting is easyish. Download the We-Connect app, ask the app to connect to a toy, and hold the Wand’s power button until it pairs. Click “Wand” in the bottom left, and toggle off Smart Silence. Sometimes it stayed off the next session, sometimes it didn’t.
What else can you do in the app? You can chat (via text or video) with a partner, when the app functions. You can see a visual representation of the vibration patterns and adjust their intensity. In my experience the changes aren’t especially sensitive/nuanced, so your power adjustments are broad strokes. You can also check your Wand’s charge %.
The other way to turn it off I discovered by accident. With the wand on, hold down the patterns button for several seconds. Voila!
But should you have to puzzle through turning off a feature that can completely ruin your experience if you’re a squirmer like me? It’s weird to have such a vital control relegated to the app and an unnatural button press.
final thoughts
Is the Wand by We-Vibe worth $180 when its power potential falls short of its $125 competitor? If power isn’t your main concern, then you have to ask yourself if the Wand’s bells and whistles are important enough to you to warrant the luxury price tag.
Do you need a wand that’s easy to hold and versatile in use? The Wand is much lighter than the MWR, and its uniquely curved handle is easy to hold in multiple ways. It’s also waterproof, which means you can use it during a relaxing soak.
Are you going to use the attachments? Body-safe wand attachments can be surprisingly pricey. We-Vibe includes a Manta-esque masturbator head with snug-yet-flexible wings and some firm ridged texturing on the inside. They also include a baffling ring of tongue-like tabs that I can’t figure out how to enjoy, despite loving the Aria Flutter.
Do you have agile fingers? The joystick requires a firm push and the power and patterns button are hard to seek out.
Are its innovations of any use to you? App compatibility gives you the option of long distance or local partner play, as well as an easier way to change settings solo. We-Connect can be spotty when it comes to partnered use, so expect some bumps. Smart Silence will be game-changing if you find yourself constantly stopping mid-session to listen for footsteps outside your bedroom. But if you don’t need these things…
You can find the Wand by We-Vibe on SheVibe ($170 USD) or Peepshow Toys ($179 USD or $161 with code betty)

Not stronger than Magic Wand Rechargeable though. That is all I need to know!
I’m new to wands, myself, so this sounds perfect for me. I did try a partner’s wand for a few seconds and it was way too much for me. They had the magic wand. I don’t think I’ll ever want or need that much power, so I’m going to try and get this one. Only thing is I wish it came in another color.
