Review: Moxie Wearable Vibrator with Remote by We-Vibe

A small box sitting atop a pile of underwear in various styles. On the box - which says moxie - is a small, pastel blue-green vibrator with a magnetic attachment.

Welcome to the latest edition of “holy crap, this review has been collecting dust since May, fuck you depression”! This episode stars one of the newest members of the We-Vibe family: the Moxie Wearable Vibrator!

The Moxie is a 3-inch vibrator that comes with a magnetic clip so you can attach it to your underwear. This allows you to wear it discreetly in public. Its 10 settings can be controlled by remote or by the We-Vibe app (the latter of which lets you tweak customized settings.) This means you don’t have to fumble in your pants to adjust the vibration power! It’s rechargeable, waterproof, and made of body-safe silicone.

And in my opinion, it’s the epitome of good foreplay.

the appeal of panty vibes

Panty vibes – that is, the SEO-friendly name for vibrators meant to be worn attached to underwear – are a frequent topic of conversation where I lurk on Twitter and Reddit. Folks are forever searching for strong, quiet panty vibes to enhance date night… or to experiment with subtle public play.

The Moxie magnetically clipped to a strip of lacy thong.

If the thought has never occurred to you, here’s a few potential uses for the We-Vibe Moxie:

  • Long distance play
  • Making the drive back to your place more exciting
  • Edging during dinner or a night out
  • Netflix and Calm down, it’s only on the first setting!
  • “You squeak, you pay the tab”

While these could potentially be a full sex session in and of themselves, for me personally they’re more foreplay than sex: scintillating build-up to maximize anticipation for later endeavors. Neither I nor my partner can orgasm from the Moxie (for reasons I’ll get into shortly) unless we’re holding it in place. While orgasm isn’t my defining factor for sex, it’s a prominent element.

But to me that’s part of the Moxie’s appeal. It’s a toy I can use as a deeply satisfying appetizer. Whether that logic also applies to you depends on your unique palette.

about the we-vibe moxie design

The Moxie is a small toy at just over three inches long. On its top half, it has a minuscule single button and a removable magnetic disk. On its underside, there’s some ripple texturing to the silicone. The silicone is powdery sleek (like the Avant line of dildos from Blush) but the toy itself is firm and inflexible.

Because panty vibes have historically been weak and attached to wispy size 0 thongs, I’d never even considered them a possibility for myself until the Moxie. Its design allows you to use it on any underwear (or a fabric strap-on harness.) This means that us fat folks and people who prefer masculine-styled undergarments can use it!

While I was dubious about the magnet, it’s awesome. Strong enough to not come loose even with a lot of movement (like a dance floor), but still relatively easy to pry off. And We-Vibe gives you a spare, which I’m pretty grateful for as someone who loses shit constantly.

Once you have the We-Vibe Moxie in place, you can control it in one of three ways: the button, the remote, or the app. The button is like minuscule pimple and takes some force to click. I hate it and I am not sorry! The app and remote I’ll discuss in their own sections – but spoiler alert: I almost always use the remote when I’m using the Moxie.

how strong is the we-vibe moxie?

Usually I save detailing my experience for later in the review, but in this case, I figured I’d answer the most-anticipated question first. We-Vibe is, after all, the maker of the blogger-beloved Tango, and this is a $140 USD toy. The people wanna know: is this thing strong?

The simple answer is: yes, and it’s being praised as the strongest panty vibe ever.

The Moxie posed in the center of a pile of underwear in various styles.

The more complicated answer is… the Moxie is strong, but it’s no We-Vibe Tango. On its highest steady power setting, the Moxie lands somewhere around the Tango’s third setting. That’s still pretty impressive – the Tango is beloved for a reason – but because the Moxie’s vibrations aren’t as thuddy as the Tango’s, it just doesn’t have the same muscle. It’s close enough that I can reach for the Moxie to get off with, and my Tango-loving clit is satisfied, but as with anything vibration-related, your mileage may vary.

Another factor in the We-Vibe Moxie’s performance is the fact that its intended purpose means you’re experiencing the vibrations indirectly (unless you have a very prominent, protruding clitoris, or a penis.) Because the Moxie can be placed wherever you want on your underwear (unlike panty vibes that come attached to cheap lacy thongs) you’re more likely to get those vibrations in the right place… but there’s only so much pressure your underwear can provide compared to holding the toy yourself.

Some people will enjoy (and even orgasm from) the We-Vibe Moxie’s rumbly, diffused vibrations. Lots of other folks will enjoy the vibrations even though their power won’t be enough to even approach orgasm. But card-carrying power royalty – that is, folks for whom nothing but the strongest vibrations will do – will probably want to pass on panty vibes entirely except as foreplay toys. As I said, the We-Vibe Moxie is the strongest one available.

the best thing about the moxie is its remote

The Moxie leaning over its own remote. The two are about the same size.

One of the coolest aspects of my favorite toy – the PalmPower Wand – is that you can scale through its vibration power manually. Most vibrators limit you to a handful of steady speeds; the PalmPower lets you increase the power incrementally.

The Moxie doesn’t let you do the same thing, but its remote does.

The remote has four buttons: click through the left and right arrows to move through settings, and click the up and down arrows to increase or decrease the power. This means that if you turn the We-Vibe Moxie to its fourth and highest steady speed, you can click the down button to soften it to a hum, then gradually increase it again with the up button. For folks like me who love a lot of power options, this is great.

The downside to the remote is that you can hear its buttons click. Not exactly discreet for public play.

the we-vibe app: we-connect and the moxie

I could write a whole post about the We-Connect app. For the sake of brevity, I’m just going to summarize our experiences. Connecting the Moxie is simple: turn on bluetooth and hold the Moxie’s button. But when the app forcibly disconnects it over and over during a session, the simplicity of reconnecting doesn’t stop me from feeling homicidal.

This frustrating cycle only happens every so often, and it’s much rarer now than when I first got the We-Vibe Moxie. But despite the improvements, the app’s potential unpredictability sours the experience. I’m always worried we’ll be interrupted.

The Moxie laying across a cellphone. On the screen, an app is shown with blue hill-like graphics that indicate vibration pattern.

When the app is stable, I like it alright.

You can use the app like a remote, controlling the device in person; or you can use it for long-distance play, with chat and video options. The video is low res and glitchy (at least on my aging Galaxy S9), but there’s a heightened sense of intimacy when you utilize these functions. The app becomes a shared private space, which I found intensely sexy.

The vibration customization is limited to drawing patterns up and down, which would be more fun I think if you had more space to create longer patterns.

final thoughts on the we-vibe moxie

While I wish the Moxie had more thump-and-rumble to its vibrations, its power serves me well for orgasmless underwear foreplay, or for a quick manual wank that ignores its intended uses.

The Moxie tucked into a sleek white bag. Its charge cord is noodling out of the opening.

The Moxie’s design is miles ahead every other vibe in its category: it’s body safe, you can use the (so-so) app or the remote, you can use it with any undergarment, and its vibrations are decently rumbly and thus less likely to tickle, itch, or cause numbness. And the extra magnet and soft storage bag are much-appreciated additives.

Is the We-Vibe Moxie worth $140 USD? That depends. Is it your first toy? Probably not a great choice, unless your heart is set on an underwear vibe. But if you’re in search of an underwear vibe for your collection that you’ll actually enjoy, and that’s sturdy enough to last you a long time, the We-Vibe Moxie is your best option by far.

You can find the We-Vibe Moxie on SheVibe or Peepshow Toys.
