Jingle Bang-for-Your-Buck: The Best Sex and Kink Toys to Splurge On

A few years ago, my partner and I finally splurged on a Magic Wand Rechargeable for Christmas. We spent months researching our options, and even longer making room in our budget for the $130 USD investment.

The splurge felt uncomfortably self-indulgent at the time, but in hindsight I wish we’d purchased it sooner. Given its power, reliability, and the many ways it transformed our sex life, it was worth every penny. Our sex life is worthy of splurges when our budget allows.

It’s been a tough year, and for most folks money is tighter than ever. I thought I’d take the time to highlight some sex toys and accessories that I think are well-worth their investment.

We-Vibe Nova 2 Rechargeable Rabbit from SheVibe

Rabbit-style vibrators are in hot demand, but they’re difficult to shop for. They have to line up with the user’s anatomy, which varies from person to person.

The brand new We-Vibe Nova 2 has the best range on the market. You can adjust the angle of the plush insertable shaft, and the flexible clitoral arm – which is curled to stay pressed against you when thrusting – is long and broad so it can reach most clits.

Both of the Nova 2’s arms have powerful, rumbly motors that deliver some of the thumpiest vibrations I’ve ever felt. The Nova 2 has several buttons to tailor the vibrations to your liking, and is also rechargeable, waterproof, app-compatible for hands-free use. We-Vibe made sure to make this well-worth its $142 investment.

Moi Box Sex Toy Storage from House of Plume

If you’re a sex toy enthusiast with intrusive housemates, you’ve likely had a few close calls (like kiddos rifling through your bedside table in search of your ipad.) Discreet, locking sex toy storage like the Moi Box Deluxe – a handsome sex toy organizer with a combination lock from House of Plume – can give you peace of mind.

The Moi Box’s $60 USD asking price is more than justifiable, given that the design is smart, genuinely useful, and coming from a small business. The back of the box has an opening so you can still charge your sex toys while storing them. The included carrying case (which can also be purchased separately) is easy to pick up and toss in a bag if you’re traveling post-pandemic. No more forgetting your favorite cockring or bullet vibe on the way to a hookup or in a last minute packing rush.

The Bella Dual Density Dildo from Peepshow Toys

Uberrime’s girthy Bella and Aqua King dildos vie for the #1 spot on my most-used dildos list. The Bella is a downright beautiful semi-realistic dildo, with a fat, squeezeable head and a straight, lightly textured shaft that absolutely glides in use. Its firm inner core keeps it from flopping or folding in use, but its outer layer is deliciously soft. The Bella is perhaps Uberrime’s plushest dual density dildo.

As someone who prefers to fuck my partner hard and fast, the Bella Dual Density is often my first choice for strap-on sex when they’re in the mood for something big but not brutal. It’s an investment at $100 USD ($90 with code BETTY), but it’s hand-sculpted, hand-poured, and high quality.

Engraved Spanking Paddle from Stockroom

An impact toy that’s as beautiful as it is effective is the gift that keeps on giving bruises. The Floral and Peony solid wood paddles are made by hand, with beautiful engravings that leave unique marks in their wake. “Every edge is rounded, sanded, and finished. The grip is comfortable and the edges give into the skin for a nice, even impact,” promises the Stockroom. I’ve wanted one for years.

At $75 USD each, the Floral and Peony paddles are more expensive than the flimsy faux leather slappers that most of us pick up in our spanking explorations. But the craftsmanship is well worth the hit to your wallet.

Hot Octopuss Pulse Solo from Peepshow Toys

There’s been a lot of innovation in penis toy design in the past few years. The Pulse Solo from Hot Octopuss is one such design. It’s a luxury stroker, equipped with an oscillating plate that’s designed to “send waves of motion through the frenulum and back of the penis.” It’s made of body-safe silicone, which – combined with its unique thrumming stimulation – makes it a serious step up from manual sleeve strokers made of porous materials.

The Pulse Solo is also waterproof, and can be used on a soft penis. This $100 USD ($90 with code BETTY) toy’s versatility and creative design make it worth taking a look at.

Le Wand Stainless Steel Dildos from SheVibe

Stainless steel dildos are so fucking luxurious. They’re incredibly weighty, which provides ample pressure on your g-spot/prostate and a heavier sense of fullness. Unlike silicone dildos, they can be used with silicone lube, so you can enjoy a long-lasting glide. For a different sensory experience, you can place them in gently warmed or cooled water to change their temperature.

Le Wand released several beautiful designs this year. A few take obvious inspo from fan favorites, but others are uniquely abstract. Would I fight a mall Santa in pre-COVID times if it meant I could get my hands on the Le Wand Contour? Yes, yes I would.

Body-safe metal dildos are pricey ($100 to $400), but they’re unique, essentially indestructible, and easy to care for.

Rechargeable Cordless Wands from Peepshow Toys

As I said earlier, buying the Magic Wand Rechargeable a few Christmases ago completely changed my sex life. But although the MWR is more versatile than its corded counterpart, it’s still pretty heavy and unwieldy. Recent releases have managed to pack the MWR’s raw power into much more intuitive designs: the Wand by We-Vibe (which I reviewed last year), and the PalmPower Rechargeable Extreme.

Both of these wands work well with partnered sex or limited reach because of their curved, comfortable to hold handles. The We-Vibe Wand ($180 USD) is more expensive than the PalmPower Extreme ($110 USD) but might warrant the difference by being app-compatible, waterproof, and joystick-controlled, if those features interest you. (I’ve been married to my Extreme since I got it, so YMMV.)

Tantus XL Silicone Sex Toys from Tantus

Tantus was making body-safe silicone toys before it was cool. They create dildos, plugs, and impact toys of all kinds (and all budgets.) But one of the most impressive offerings on their site is the XL collection: awe-inspiring giants like the General Super Soft, deep-reaching dildos like the Snake, and chess-inspired fuckables like the Queen or Bishop – just to name a few.

If you’ve been building up to exploring large insertion, Tantus’s supply can satiate. These hefty, unique creations are some of the priciest that Tantus offers, but it’s justified by the sheer size of the designs.

Kinklab Neon Wand from SheVibe

If you’re bored of feather ticklers and pinwheels, it might be time to upgrade to a Kinklab Neon Wand. High on my wishlist for years now, the Neon Wand uses electricity to tease, prickle, and pinch. Its various attachments spread the sensations out in different ways, allowing you to vary the toe-curling torture.

If you’re into pain play, you might want to take a peek at the Obsidian Neon Wand Intensity Kit instead. Though it has just 2 attachments, they’re both optimized for ouch: forked prongs for powerful zaps, and a flogger for electrified whipping.

Adding some mad scientist gear to your play will set you back $146 USD (or $175 for the Intensity Kit.)

Mint Green Leather or Vegan Floral Bondage Gear from Stockroom

As long as you’re prioritizing safe play, there are plenty of household objects that can be repurposed for restraints. But if bondage is a beloved staple in the bedroom, it might be time to invest in some sturdy, attractive gear like Stockroom’s gorgeous Vegan Floral set or the limited edition Mint Green collection.

The polyurethane Vegan Floral cuffs, anklets, spanking ruler, and collar and leash combo are printed with beautiful flower and vine designs and lined with faux fur for comfort. The leather Mint Green collar, leash, and wrist and ankle cuffs are sturdy yet supple and soft. Both sets – while much more expensive than a pair of mass-produced handcuffs – are crafted to last and designed to be unique in a sea of plain black gear.

Pipedream Her Ultimate Pleasure from SheVibe

The unfortunately named Her Ultimate Pleasure is one of my favorite sex toys. The Ultimate Pleasure is a strong vulva pump with a vibrating handle and a robotic tongue. If you don’t enjoy pumping, the cup can be removed so you can just use the tongue, which licks with rigid but toe-curling swipes. Truly the swiss army knife of clitoral toys.

I reviewed the pricier luxury edition back in March, and I’ve only come to love it more in the months since. The design is far from perfect, but the toy itself is so unique it’s impossible not to forgive its faults. If you don’t mind purple, the regular version is $100 USD.

Review: Fantasy for Her, Her Ultimate Tongue-Gasm Clitoral Stimulator

I don’t know if I can be analytical or informative about the Her Ultimate Tongue-Gasm from Pipedream. Like, the name is fucking awful. “Fantasy for Her, Her Ultimate Tongue-Gasm” is a mouthful, needlessly gendered, and hella tacky. (Sound familiar?) The design is ugly and feels […]
