Review: Desire Preheating Silicone Thruster Dildo by Zalo

The Zalo Desire Silicone Thrusting Dildo is a toy that answers the unasked question, ‘What would happen if you crossed a fairy princess and a fucking machine?’

Pink, gold, and bedazzled with a glittery Swarovski crystal, the Desire is elegant and pretty in equal measure. And all of Zalo’s toys follow intentionally feminine themes, like the tea time daintiness of the Rosalie Rabbit, the sleek and sultry regality of the Queen Pulsewave Vibrator, and the magical girl cuteness of the Confidence Preheating Wand. As someone who sometimes turns their butchy little nose up at fem toys, I’m really into Zalo’s purposeful designs – even the pink ones!

The Zalo Desire Thruster Dildo is silent, USB rechargeable, and has six thrusting modes (including a turbo setting) and a heating feature. It’s made of silicone and ABS plastic, making it durable and body-safe – unlike toys made out of unsafe materials like TPR/TPE and “jelly.” It comes in a unique, witchy-themed cardboard packaging, and includes a sleek silver storage bag.

Currently, the Desire can be found for $140 USD on SheVibe. SheVibe graciously sent it the Desire me in exchange for an honest review – and maaaaybe made a dream of mine come true in the process. Superhero Sex Shop indeed!

so what does the zalo desire thrusting dildo actually do?

The Desire isn’t a vibrator – it’s a pulsation/thrusting toy that fucks back and forth using a motor and magnets inside the shaft. (The magnets are strong enough to pick up small metal objects, so pierced genitals be cautious before insertion!) It is, essentially, a handheld fucking machine. But pulsators and thrusters can’t match the power of actual, full-size fucking machines; instead, they condense the concept into a smaller, gentler, and much more affordable form.

The Zalo Desire’s thrusts can best be described as “scooting,” and its Turbo Mode can only achieve vigorous scooting. I don’t think its limited reach and force make it a bad toy (quite the contrary) but I do think that folks should be aware that the Desire isn’t going to pound the shit out of you with deep-reaching thrusts. It’s going to nudge back and forth in place, gently rubbing your vaginal wall to compliment rather than compete with whatever else you’re doing.

(For a hardier fuck, you may want to cast your sights on a member of the Fun Factory Stronic line.)

desire thruster details and design

The Zalo Desire Thrusting Dildo has just over 5 insertable inches (with 4 additional inches devoted to the handle) and has a max insertable width of 1.5 inches. It’s is a firm toy, with absolutely no squish to its shaft. This means that it can feel a bit girthier than its widest width (which is the average diameter of a penis), if you’re used to soft density dildos and toys.

A close-up of the Desire's upper shaft. The toy gets thicker towards the tip, partially wrapped by smooth ridges. There is a subtle seam running the length of the silicone's side.

The shaft is mostly straight along the underside but provides a curve by getting considerably girthier towards the tip, which ends in an upward snub for targeted g-spot stimulation. There’s a gentle spiral of smooth, raised ridges around its insertable length to provide subtle visual pizzazz; they’re not really noticeable in use.

On the underside of the shaft’s base, there’s a tab of silicone obscuring the charging port. It takes about an hour to charge the Desire, and Zalo promises between 2 and 4 hours of continuous use. I find that claim to be pretty accurate; my partner and I can be forgetful/lazy about keeping toys charged, and the Zalo Desire has never died mid-use from our neglect.

The handled end of the Desire Thrusting Dildo houses a gold plastic face with the toy’s four drop-shaped buttons surrounding a sparkly Swavorski crystal. The four buttons control the thrusting settings, turbo mode, and warming feature. Beneath the buttons, Zalo’s logo and some elegant minor detailing are etched in raise silicone; when the warming is engaged or the toy is charging, the center of the design glows red.

the SEAMingly perfect toy

Zalo was certainly very keyed into the aesthetics of the Desire Thrusting Dildo. Even the lip of silicone – where the shaft and handle are joined by a gold plastic cuff – is shaped for elegance. But its attractive design isn’t perfect: a seam runs along the entire toy’s length, not noticeable at first glance but an unfortunate marring once you’ve seen it. Depending on how sensitive you are, seams like these can cause subtle, irritating scuffing internally. My partner, who’s often hypersensitive to such things, didn’t notice the seam in use, even when impatiently rushing and forgoing lube.

thrusting in use: what does the zalo desire feel like?

The Desire Thruster slides in nice and smooth because of its soft, sleek finish. This smoothness means that the Desire is a pleasantly silken fuck, but it also means it lacks the texture to stay in without being held by hand or between clenched thighs, especially when the thrusting is engaged.

There are six thrusting modes. The first three settings are steady, rhythmic thrusts: quick nudge, frantic jiggle, and rapid pulse. The first pattern goes through the three steady thrusting modes for a quick, 3-second ramp-up cycle. The second pattern starts out with the gentlest steady setting, then gives a few short blip thrusts, then uses the second steady setting before circling back through. The third is the longest pattern cycle, moving through each of the steady speeds for a slower ramp-up.

A closer shot of the spiral pattern on the Desire's shaft.

My partner calls the thrusts “gentle nudging,” and says that the turbo setting (the fastest of the three steady modes) almost feels like mild vibrations rather than thrusts. It’s a delicious tease for them when they’re in the mood for a slowly built orgasm, providing constant stimulation that keeps their attention but doesn’t distract them from clitoral pleasure. When angled correctly by hand, the Zalo Desire’s sloped tip scoots against their g-spot.

The Desire gets called a “messy” toy in my house, because its gentle but persistent movement works Buster to ‘sloppy’ wetness. This makes cleaning the toy more of a chore, but I’ll address that in another section.

when things heat up

The Zalo Desire Thruster Dildo also has a warming mode. If you choose to turn it on, it will gradually heat the core of the shaft (on the girthier end) until it’s a bit hotter than body temperature. You can’t adjust the temperature. It automatically turns off once the two minute cycle is complete. When the toy begins to cool off, you can click the button again to reheat it.

Buster’s response to this feature depended on their mood. Sometimes they didn’t even notice it in use, and on one occasion they felt it was too hot (not burning, just annoyingly distracting); but mostly, they loved it. Especially when paired with the slowest steady thrusts, a combination they said felt like “warm-surfaced petting in my cunt.”

the buttons of the zalo desire

The Desire Thruster Dildo’s buttons can be a little confusing at first, especially if you’re like me and you ignore the instructions.

  • To turn the Desire on, press the button on the right – just a quick push, you don’t have to hold it down. Click it again to cycle through its six thrust settings.
  • To go back a setting, click the left button.
  • To immediately skip to Turbo Mode (the third steady setting), click the top button.
  • To turn the Desire Thruster Dildo off, you can either click and hold the left button for three seconds, or click the left button to cycle back through the modes until it’s off.
  • To start the two minute warming feature, click the bottom button once. To turn the warming off before the cycle is complete, click the bottom button again.

cleaning the zalo desire thruster

The ultra sleek silicone of the Desire doesn’t attract lint and pet hair as aggressively as other silicone toys in my collection. It’s also much easier to wipe off.

Unfortunately, the Desire Thruster Dildo isn’t waterproof. This means it can’t be submerged in water for easier cleaning after use. Instead, you’ll have to use toy cleaner (such as my favorite, Sliquid Shine) or a mild face-safe soap, and then carefully rinse it with warm water. It’s splashproof, so briefly holding it under running water is fine.

Cleaning the Desire Thruster is pretty straight-forward, except that you need to make sure lube and other liquids haven’t seeped behind the lip of silicone near the handle. Because sex tends to get messy with the Desire, I always check this crevice with my fingernail. Gunk tends to be a little harder to clean off the plastic, and this is especially true of the buttons. (We really get this thing goopy.)

If Zalo had skipped the plastic and had mirrored lubey finger friendly designs like the Blush Wellness G Curve’s silicone buttons, cleaning would be a breeze… but it would also have impacted the aesthetic.

i dream of sexy trysts and rested wrists

Fucking machines have been an interest of mine for as long as I’ve had uninterrupted access to google. But as I’ve gotten older, my lust has taken on more practical motivations: I have incredibly weak wrists that cramp up whenever I’m fucking my partner by hand. A tool or toy that does the thrusting for me has the potential to save me a lot of pain and frustration.

While the Zalo Desire Thruster is a much gentler lay than I am, it’s certainly met my wrist-saving expectations. I don’t even have to hold it, because my partner Buster can keep the Desire anchored in place by squeezing their thighs together. (This is reliant on how thick their thighs are, so your mileage may vary on that – you’ll have to hold the Desire in some capacity, because it will not stay in on its own.)

A close-up of the round handled end of the Desire. The light is gleaming on the gold plastic trim.

And I know I’m not the only person for whom automated thrust toys are a dream come true. They’re a potential gamechanger for disabled folks – such as those with limited mobility, or pressure/force perception struggles (shout out to my fellow dyspraxic autistics!) – who can’t comfortably thrust toys for themselves or partners. They also fill a pleasure gap for people who don’t have a partner to do the handiwork for them, or who want to save hands for other activities. Whether the gentleness of the Desire Thruster meets those needs is a matter of taste; those wanting a harder fuck may prefer the Stronic line from Fun Factory.

is the zalo desire worth its luxury pricetag?

The Zalo Desire Preheating Thruster Dildo is incontestably the cutest addition to the growing number of self-thrusting toys available… but it’s also one of the gentlest. For some, the nudge-style thrusting won’t be enough to satisfy, especially not for the (current) price of $140 USD.

The Zalo Desire’s mild and persistent fucking has its place. Even my partner, who is used to my deep, heavy-handed thrusting, enjoyed the light way the Desire would help rub them to orgasm. Depending on how we held it, its snubbed tip would milk Buster’s g-spot or else pet the front wall of their vagina with short little shifts that had them leaking copiously. I think it will wow people who are too sensitive for internal vibrations (or simply don’t like them) but still want something more than a cheap rotating rabbit to stimulate them. It’s gentle, but not ineffective.

But, it is called a Thruster.

If the Desire was waterproof (which would make cleaning much less complicated) and had more muscle behind its second and third thrust modes (rather than frantic fluttering), I’d be more comfortable encouraging you to throw your money at it. For $140 USD, a better range of thrust hardiness and less “did I get all the gunk out of the crevices?” cleaning struggles aren’t unreasonable asks.

I hope there’s an updated version in the future… but for now, the Zalo Desire is most ideal for folks looking for some gentle loving from a toy worthy of a fairy princess.
