The Hydrus Water Dragon Dildo is one of Uberrime’s latest fantasy releases. It’s a super soft, highly textured toy with a pronounced knot.

A fantasy dildo “knot” is a bulb shape (usually located on the lower half of the shaft) that provides a satisfying stretch. Knots can feel like an added pop of sensation, a challenge you have to overcome, or a cork to keep you full.

It’s a common monster dildo characteristic, but this is Uberrime’s first knotted model. Hopefully the first of many!

hydrus dildo design & features

When I say the Hydrus Dragon Dildo is soft, I mean it. It’s easy to bend in half, it squishes when you squeeze it, and the various scales and bumps feel like firm gummy candy. But it’s still rigid enough to stand upright on its own, and it only drapes a little when positioned in a strap-on harness.

Hydrus Water Dragon Dildo comes in three sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. The small is about as thick as two of my (chubby) fingers. It’s nice to see this ultra-petite option considering how few truly “beginner-friendly” fantasy dildos exist.

When choosing which size of Hydrus to get, it’s important to remember that while the knot is the widest point, the vast majority of your experience is going to be with the slimmer shaft. My partner Buster – who likes their toys big – was left unimpressed with the Hydrus Large’s overall average-ish girth. It’s no Neo Elite 9 Inch (2in diameter) or A-Spot Avenger (2.07in diameter.) Maybe we’ll see an XL in the future?

The Hydrus was 3D sculpted by artist MagicPhallic. Unlike Uberrime’s Igneus Dragon (which is abstractly shaped like a dragon’s full body), the Hydrus Dildo is definitely a dragon dick. You don’t have to view it as such; plenty of people are into monster dildos for the unique textures rather than the fantasy themeing. But if you need a dildo to plunder some princesses…

The Hydrus Dragon Dildo features a tapered bulb-like head for easier insertion, rounded scales of varying sizes for smooth texture play, and a scaley base that’s stylized like a cloaca. I really love the soft-but-spikey ridge of scales along the underside of the shaft. The Hydrus is a gorgeous design that has a lot going on but still manages to look cohesive.

The Hydrus Water Dragon Dildos pictured in this review are in two colorations. The Hydrus Small is in the vibrant “banshee” combo of blues and purple (available at SheVibe), and the Hydrus Large is the Night King coloration (from Uberrime’s Night King dildo.)

our experience: sizing

I have vaginismus, so my insertable toy options are limited to itty bitty. When I first tried the Hydrus Small, even its modest 1 inch diameter was too much for my vagina. But after a few months, I worked up to it… mostly. I can take the first 4 inches of the shaft, but that 1.4 inch knot? Forget about it.

Meanwhile, my partner Buster uses the Hydrus Large as a warm-up toy. Then they move on to beefier offerings like the Aqua-King.

Despite our individual needs and preferences, I think the Hydrus is nicely proportioned across its three sizes. Even the Large is vagina-friendly with its 5 inch initial shaft length (7 inches plus some change when you add in the knot.) Vaginas are around 6 to 8 inches deep when aroused, so the Large Hydrus slides in with room to spare for the knot. It’s a sexy feeling, having your opening wedged wide on a thick, soft swell of silicone.

But “nicely proportioned” comes with a caveat. If you’re looking for a comparatively challenging knot – meaning a knot that feels like a big stretch at the end of a satisfying shaft – I’m not sure the Hydrus provides that. The knot isn’t a full orb, it’s a modest oval: the promised girth isn’t as filling/stretching as it appears on paper. Far easier and more comfortable to take, but less kinky and obstructive.

If this is your first knotted toy (and I firmly believe it’s an ideal first), that’s probably great news! But if you’re an especially ambitious monster fucker… YMMV.

our experience: texture and density

At first glance, the Hydrus Water Dragon Dildo probably looks intimidating. A highly textured shaft and a fat knot? Insert rough water pun here. But the Hydrus is made with soft silicone. Its challenging-looking features compress when you apply pressure – like by sliding it into a clenching orifice. The scales squish down and, to a certain degree, the knot yields.

How exciting the Hydrus Dragon’s texture is will depend on how sensitive you are (because every body is different.) Buster was hoping for a tantalizing, all-over ripple of sensation from the scales. But as soon as you thrust this toy, the texture vanishes. With slower movement and less lube, Buster can feel the ghostly ripple of the ridged underside or the bulgier bumps on the sides of the shaft. Compared to the promising visual, it’s a total tease.

Everyone has their preferences, and Buster wishes the Hydrus was firmer for a pushier textural massage.

That being said, if you’re looking for an easy ride, the Hydrus Dragon Dildo is downright slick. Like most of Uberrime’s non-realistic toys, the Hydrus’s silicone has a sleek finish. The texture comes from the shape of the scales – the scales themselves are smooth.

The bumpiness of the scales is way more apparent when you’re using the Hydrus anally, at least in my partner and I’s experience. The tapered head and straight-yet-flexible shaft are great for anal. Just make sure you’re adequately stretched if you’re taking the Hydrus Water Dragon Dildo’s larger sizes. Transitioning to the knot can be difficult because it’s so squishy. But once you have, the Hydrus has a neck like a butt plug for your sphincter to relax around. Round bases aren’t my favorite for anal toys (T-bar shapes are comfier for chubby cheeks) but the Hydrus’s isn’t too obtrusive, even with its braided scale details.

Washing the Hydrus Water Dragon Dildo takes a bit of extra work. To ensure you’re getting it thoroughly clean, use hot water and press the scales down with the pads of your fingers as you soap and rinse it. You don’t wanna leave any fluids flaked in the crevices!

our experience: strap-on harness

The Hydrus Water Dragon Dildo’s “neck” – that is, the narrower shaft beneath the knot – is where you’ll be fitting an o-ring if you want to use it in a harness. It can be tricky fitting the Hydrus for a ring because of the knot, but luckily the toy is soft! I recommend silicone o-rings since they tend to be a little stretchy. Go for a size smaller than the knot for better grip/control in use.

If it’s a struggle to get the o-ring on (especially if your o-ring is built into a harness) place a plastic bag over the toy first. This smooths out the texture so the ring can slide down the dildo, and helps protect the toy from scratching/scuffing. Use lube and squeeze the knot by hand as needed. When the ring is in place, tug or rip the bag off!

The Hydrus Water Dragon Dildo is pretty harness-friendly. The base isn’t as bulky as many Uberrime bases, so it fits in most harness styles. The toy isn’t overly long, so if you’re fucking a partner with a cervix, you’re not as likely to poke and prod even when you’re pressing deep. And you’ll wanna fuck deep – feeding them the toy’s knot is half the fun.

The knot should definitely be on your mind when considering the Uberrime Hydrus Dildo for strap-on play. If you plan on doing a lot of thrusting, that swell is gonna tug and stretch your partner’s entrance with most thrusts. If that doesn’t sound mouth-watering, go for a consistent-width dildo.

final thoughts on the hydrus

I really blew the word count outta the water on this review. Whoops. I blame my enthusiasm for water dragon dildos on watching Spirited Away just as I hit puberty. Haku was quite an inspiration for baby Betty.

For an intricately-scaled, knotted monster dick, the Hydrus Water Dragon Dildo is pretty tame. At least to a greedy, experienced monster fucker like Buster. I think for the average toy-user, the Hydrus Dragon’s texture will be pretty manageable and its knot will serve as a fun pop of sensation, a bonus stretch at the end of a deep thrust.

I’m especially delighted that the Hydrus Small is so petite. If you’re after a fantasy themed upgrade from tentative fingering, and texture’s of interest…
