Today I’m reviewing one of the most delightful products I’ve ever received: the SquarePegToys Happy Show Tail Puppy Dog Tail, sent to me by Peepshow Toys.

SquarePeg’s Show Tails come in two shapes: the thin, perky Happy, and the Woofy, which is thicker and etched with fluff-like details. Both tails come in bright blue, pink, violet, or black.

Unlike SquarePeg’s butt plug tails, Show Tails aren’t worn by putting a plug inside you. The Happy and Woofy Show Tails are placed in a stiff leather Sling Plate holster, which fits on your belt.

The Happy Show Tail’s soft, bouncy silicone is curved and just rigid enough to stay upright, swaying and bobbing depending on how you move your body. It’s cute as fuck, and the perfect addition to my partner and I’s explorations into puppy play.

As I described in What the Kink? Puppy Play, puppy play is “the kinky act of one or more adult participants performing behaviors one might associate with dogs, particularly the playful attitude and exuberance of puppies. Wearing a leash, eagerly licking a lover, wagging their butt (sometimes while wearing a play tail), and rolling around or play-wrestling, are just a handful of ways human pups might express themselves.”

For some, puppy play is non-sexual. For me, it’s the more exciting when paired with sex. It’s a fun excuse to be orally focused, rascally, and aggressively horny. If I’m good, I get a treat; if I’m bad, I get a sexy scolding and a treat.

The Happy Show Tail is a fun accessory for when one of us is keeping bottoms on during sex/play. You can just wear it to set the mood, or incorporate it into your play:

• Showing your enthusiasm by wagging your tail while you go down on your partner.
• A partner meanly yanking it during a degradation scene.
• Slowly swaying it as a waggy warning that you’re about to pounce!

Because SquarePeg Show Tails are made of body-safe silicone, they’re also safe to use for penetration. The tail’s thin, flexible length isn’t most folks’ ideal insertable, but it’ll do if you’re desperate and forgot your dildo at home.

To wear the Happy Show Tail, place the tail in the leather Sling Plate. Fit your belt through one of the belt slots, then slide your belt through half the belt loops on your bottoms. Situate the Sling Plate over the center belt loop at the small of your back (that way your tail stays centered!) Slide your belt through the other Sling Plate slot, then finish threading your belt through your belt loops.

It’s impossible to put on a tail and not immediately feel cute. The Happy Show Tail brings out a lot of different moods: the growly alpha dog, the playful himbo companion, the whimpering good girl, the preening show dog…

Because it attaches to your belt, the Show Tail’s placement is going to depend on the style of your bottoms. My partner and I mostly wear high waist shorts and skinny jeans these days, so the tail sits significantly higher on our bodies than where one would expect to see a tail. Who’da thought I’d ever miss low-rise jeans from the 00’s?

I’m glad our first tail toy wasn’t an insertable. While Buster loves wearing butt plugs, plugs take more time to incorporate into sex – whereas we can just pop the Happy Show Tail on and get right into things.

The Happy Show Tail was made for bouncy, up-and-down wags. You can get a good side-to-side wag going, but it takes a little more work. Here’s my partner demonstrating two types of wagging:

For bouncy, circular wagging, Buster just rocks back and forth on their feet.

For side-to-side wagging, Buster puts their weight on the sides of their feet and rocks their body at the hips. Because it’s more of a bouncer, the Happy Show Tail tends to flop out of rhythm here and there.

The Woofy Show Tail produces a more traditional wag, so consider the “bushier” Woofy if you’re keen on proper swaying.

Puppy play provides much-needed brevity in our bedroom these days. You can explore puppy play without gear, but it’s a lot of fun to have something physical to utilize in your play. Wearing a Show Tail helps me get into the right headspace. Once the initial awkwardness fades, the playfulness sets in.
