Review: Ergo Blueballs Soft Silicone Butt Plug by Oxballs

Peepshow Toys describes the Oxballs Ergo Super Soft Butt Plug as “supremely squishy.” They’re definitely not exaggerating. The Ergo plug is the most squeezable butt plug in my toy box.

When I first started collecting sex toys, I thought butt plugs had to be firm. But while rigid silicone (or metal!) is often easier for insertion because butt muscles are naturally resistant, softer plugs are much more comfortable for longer wear.

My partner Buster – an avid butt slut – doesn’t have any trouble with inserting anal toys. They’re used to relaxing their butt muscles so they can work up to girthy toys, so they don’t need the extra help of a firmer insertable. That means they can go with what their butt loves: big n’ squishy silicone.

This butt plug is made of body-safe silicone, which is durable and easy to sanitize.

The Oxballs Ergo comes in 5 sizes. Ours is a medium, which is not very medium at all – it’s an impressive 2 inches wide at its girthiest. You can also get the Ergo in XS (1.3”), small (1.7”), large (2.3”), and XL (2.7”), with its insertable length growing bigger with each size.

The Ergo is available in black smoke, or the Peepshow exclusive shade “blueballs”: a rich blue swirled with a truly magical amount of silver glitter. It would look right at home on the bedside table of a NASA nerd and/or femme witch.

The Ergo is a genuinely unique shape in an ocean of cones and bulbs. The insertable portion is shaped like a short, fat kidney bean, with a snubbed tip and a subtle inward curve. Plugs usually have a tapered tip so they’re comfortable to insert. Oxballs instead focused on making the shape comfortable to wear.

The Ergo’s flared base is what’s often called a t-bar, which – unlike purely round bases – is designed to tuck unobtrusively between the wearer’s cheeks. It has two raised tabs that press lightly against your taint and crack.

so let’s talk about the squish

Density (firmness) plays a big part in how a toy feels. It determines how abrasive a toy’s texturing is and how noticeable its shape and girth is in use.

The Ergo is deliciously squishy. It’s not as pillowy as the SquarePegToys Mel Dildo, but it’s more squeezable than Buster’s favorite plug: the Tantus Bronco. Being this squishy means that even in larger sizes, the Ergo provides a plush stretch. The exact same toy in a firm density would feel larger, and would strain against your insides instead of yielding/bending with you when you move. Some people enjoy that; Buster does not. At least not with big plugs.

(If firm density is your jam, the Ergo also comes in firm in 2 colors: Platinum Swirl and Black and Blue.)

Buster really likes the Ergo’s stubby size. It sits low in their ass, which means the bulk of its girth is really noticeable. The two subtle pressure points on the bean shape press snugly against their internal walls, shifting enticingly when they rock their hips or clench/milk their muscles. The softness of the pressure points prevents them from feeling pokey or intrusive even when Buster wears the Ergo during vaginal sex.

In fact (minus a caveat I’ll get to in the next section) the Oxballs Ergo is a lot better suited to being worn during vaginal sex than the Bronco. Its girth compresses Buster’s cunt, making slimmer toys like the Neo Elite 7.5 Inch or Naked Addiction feel more filling. The pressure and fullness also makes g-spot and a-spot stimulation easier to achieve.

Squishy plugs aren’t as ideal for prostate stimulation since it’s more difficult to get the necessary targeted pressure, but with a plug as big as the medium Ergo, it’s a moot point. Your ass is stuffed full – everything, including your prostate, is getting pushed on. The Ergo’s not a prostate milker like an Aneros Prostate Massager, but broad pressure can be pleasurable in its own way.

oxballs ergo insertion and wear

Anal toys go in easier when you angle the tip towards the wearer’s belly button as you press in. The Ergo’s bean shape and lack of real taper make getting it into my partner… interesting, but not difficult.

After warming up with the Tantus Bronco, I tilt the top of the Ergo against Buster’s hole, pressing inward towards their belly but moving in a semi-circle. This gesture follows the curve of the Ergo’s shape. It makes insertion way more comfortable than just hole-stuffing willy nilly.

The Oxballs Ergo compared with the Tantus Bronco Butt Plug.

The Ergo’s neck is squishy but wide. Wider than the Tantus Bronco’s. Unlike something like the b-Vibe Snug Plug – which has an ultra-thin neck so that your asshole relaxes completely once the toy is in – the Oxballs Ergo’s thick neck keeps your hole stretched.

Here’s where the Ergo failed Buster: the fit. Buster has a big, enviably round ass. While Oxballs hoped their design would be a comfortable fit for all butts, the base is still pretty round, and it won’t stay put between Buster’s pillowy bottom. We keep having to stop our play to push it back in place.

A rogue plug means a couple of things: your sphincter never gets to relax, you can’t wear it for long sessions, and all the wiggling/rubbing dries out the lube. That’s all tolerable if the butt plug is just part of a stretching session before fucking/fisting. But for wearing a plug while doing errands/chores, or during a long and leisurely foreplay session or front hole fuck? It’s a hassle.

If your ass isn’t as magnificently imposing as Buster’s, it will likely fit you just fine. Phallophile Reviews and Super Smash Cache – two reviewers I trust – didn’t struggle with it.

final thoughts on the ergo

The Oxballs Ergo Butt Plug is not for beginners (I wouldn’t even recommend the XS unless you’re already comfortable with more than two fingers in your ass.) It’s for butt sluts who know they like being full. You also have to be experienced enough with butt play to not need a rigid and/or tapered tip to get a toy past your sphincter.

While the Ergo wasn’t a perfect fit for my partner’s booty, I still think it’s a neat plug. The Ergo is a yummy stretch at every size; even its neck keeps your ass feeling unrelentingly stuffed. Its curved bulb provides constant, comfortably stimulating pressure. It’s easy to clean. The Peepshow exclusive “blueballs” color is explosively glittery, thus making it a witchy, galaxy-swirled addition to any queer nightstand.
