Review: Temptasia Luna Strapless Silicone Dildo by Blush Novelties

Strap-on sex is a big part of my sex life. But until Peepshow Toys reached out about sending me the Temptasia Luna from Blush Novelties, I’d never owned a strapless strap-on.

The name “strapless” is misleading. While there are some people with pelvic floor muscles powerful enough to use them without straps, a majority of users have to stabilize their strapless dildo with a harness if they want to thrust. Backless o-ring harnesses and fabric harnesses with inner openings, specifically.

There are certainly ways to use a strapless that don’t require a harness. We’ve had some success with Buster (my stunt bottom – let’s hear it for free labor from the spouse!) on top. We’ve used it for blowjob play. We even used it doggy-style with the receiver doing all the work, because the great thing about being fat is you’ve got plush thighs to help hold things in place. (I could probably do most positions like that if I was, like, roleplaying I was a mermaid.)

Sex is really fun, folks.

the temptasia luna strapless silicone dildo design

The Temptasia Luna is technically two toys in one. Blush Novelties paired this strapless with one of my favorite bullet vibrators: the rechargeable Exposed Nocturnal. Make sure you lube it up before insertion, because it can be difficult to pop back out.

The Nocturnal is the most powerful bullet I own. There is no gentle setting. Like the version sold separately, the Nocturnal is firm, with two tiny buttons to increase and decrease the vibrations. It’s also waterproof, meaning you can use it – in or out of the Luna – in the tub.

The Temptasia Strapless Silicone Luna is a pretty petite dildo. The insertable bulb is only 1.25 inches in diameter, and the shaft is 1.4. (The average penis/dildo diameter is 1.5 inches.) The Luna is a total of 9 inches long, but a portion of that will be obstructed by the body wearing it.

In my case, about 3 inches of the shaft peeks out past my generous pubic mound. Folks with smaller bodies will probably have significantly more room to fuck. Blush Novelties’s generous estimate is 6.75 inches for insertion.

The Temptasia Luna’s silicone is super firm with a sleek, soft finish. The rigidity makes it easier to wield the Luna (and to grip the bulb with your vaginal muscles), but it makes for an unyielding fuck. If you like some squish to your dildos, the Luna is not for you. It’s great at carrying/conducting vibration though!

The shaft’s curve looks subtle but it feels more targeted in use. This allows for firm p/g-spot stimulation, and the head has a slight bump for extra pressure. (We only noticed the nub when pulling out anally.) There are also bumps on the shaft where it approximates your clit will be, for friction/grinding. (My puss is too plush to allow that.)

using strapless dildos when you’re fat and your vagina is angry

So, conceptually, strapless strap-ons aren’t really big fuck friendly. These toys are all about the distance between slots and tabs and other slots, and when you and your partner are large, the location of said slots and tabs can be obstructed or farther apart.

Contrary to my mermaid joke, riding and doggy are essentially the only positions comfortable for my partner and I with a strapless. Yes, even when it’s paired with a harness. With a traditional harness and dildo, I can situate the toy high on my pubic mound, making my vulva, mons, and thighs less of an issue. A strapless is literally tethered to my vagina. Fenced in by all the flesh that surrounds it, the Luna – and probably most strapless dildos – comes up short.

But I knew this would be the case before I accepted the Luna for review.

I didn’t want the Temptasia Luna so I could have ambitiously harnessless sex, or have deep penetrative sex with my partner. (A longer shaft to compensate for my body size would be nice, but then the Luna would be even more lopsided and prone to popping out.) I just wanted a dildo that simultaneously penetrated the wearer/top – in most cases, me!

I have vaginismus, so very few strapless dildos are small enough for my body at present. The Luna’s insertable bulb is only 1.25 inches in diameter. I think for most folks, its small size will make it difficult to keep in (especially when aroused and/or wet), but it was a good fit for me.

our experience: vibrations, wearing the toy, and clit stim

In addition to not actually being strap-free, a common complaint about strapless dildos is that the insertable bulb is uncomfortable or will pop out during use. The Luna didn’t pop out unless I contorted my body into a weird position, as long as I was mindful of keeping my thighs together or my briefs hiked up (often both.)

(Buster wasn’t so lucky when wearing the Luna. The bulb’s small size and flimsy neck made it impossible to keep in.)

My vagina wasn’t thrilled with the Temptasia Luna. But with ample lube it was nice to feel that tugging connection to whatever I used the shaft for. Like shallowly fucking my partner from behind or receiving blowjobs for show.

The firm ribbing at the base of the shaft is meant to rub the wearer’s clit during thrusting. As is often the case of anatomy-specific designs (like rabbit vibes), it didn’t line up with my clit nor my partner’s. I couldn’t get friction because the overhang of my pubic mound angled the toy away from my body. For Buster, the ribbing landed over their urethra instead. A textured cock ring can pinch hit if you’re keen on some rubbin’.

Speaking of friction, Buster’s inner labia didn’t always play well with the base of the Luna when they were wearing it. Their inner labia is long, and the Luna shifts around a lot in use; sometimes it caught and pinched or rubbed.

In all honesty, the key stimulating feature for the wearer and receiver is the Luna’s bullet vibe. The Nocturnal is incredibly powerful (rivaling my Tango) and the Luna’s stiff silicone distributes it really well. You can feel the vibrations in the shaft and head almost as well as in the base. The vibrations – which start strong and just get stronger – are mostly rumbly with a buzzy edge to them. I really enjoyed squirming around with them tethered to my vag, never enough to make me orgasm without direct clitoral contact.

If you want my full thoughts on the Exposed Nocturnal Bullet Vibe, I reviewed it in 2018.

our experience: being fucked, giving blowjobs, and accessibility

My partner was initially nervous that the Temptasia Luna’s angled head would be stabby since the silicone is hard, but it was only jarring if we rushed things or I angled the toy poorly. The head’s ridge provided a little internal stroking, but the texturing lines on the shaft didn’t really register in use. It just didn’t have the definition and girth.

The shaft details were much more noticeable anally, hard and smooth. The Luna’s firm curve would be pretty good for prostate stimulation, in my estimation.

Blowjobs with the Temptasia Luna were fun, but Luna isn’t a soft or particularly realistic toy, so it didn’t make for an especially pleasant mouthful. The rigidity of the shaft made it easy to bite and tug to jostle the internal bulb, though, and that was fun.

An alternative use for the Luna is as a traditional dildo, with the bulb acting as an easy handle. Because the Luna is rigid, it’s doesn’t pose as many flopping issues if your thrusts are less coordinated. The Nocturnal vibe’s small buttons are potential a concern if you’re less mobile or don’t have fine motor control, as is getting the vibe in and out of the toy.

final thoughts on the temptasia luna strapless dildo

For many, the need for a harness – and/or the body size limitations – inherent to a strapless like the Temptasia Luna makes it an undesirable investment. Folks wanna fuck unencumbered, and not everyone has the room or budget for a “once in awhile” toy for shallow fucking and blowjob play.

I do wish strapless strap-on dildos were called something like “dual entry dildos for strap-ons” instead. Buyer’s remorse often stems from not knowing what you’re getting into. I knew, so I was happy to experiment with what a strapless can do. Most retailers – including Peepshow – emphasize the need for a harness in their listing descriptions, so that’s a start!

The Temptasia Luna is a budget-friendly option for exploring this kind of toy and seeing if it’s right for you. As long as you prefer your insertables on the firm side and your vibrations strong.
