Review: Curved 5 Inch Silicone Dildo by Loving Joy

The first word I’d use to describe the Curved Dildo by Loving Joy is “small”.

[Description: A small black silicone dildo posed in front of a gold gradient vase. A dime – the smallest US coin – is perched on its flared base for scale. The dildo is flecked with water droplets.]
At its absolute widest – right above the flared base – the Curved Dildo is less than 1.19 inches in diameter. It’s a modest 5 inches tall, with a curved shaft and subtly rounded head.

There are many reasons someone might want a dildo this small. Because it’s only a little thicker than a finger but with a longer reach, it’s a great option for penetration beginners, or people who enjoy minimal girth.

I have vaginismus, an involuntary contraction of muscles that painfully limits or prevents vaginal penetration. Vaginismus is treatable, but it’s a long and arduous process that looks different for everyone.

I use dilators and small dildos as part of my routine. The Curved Dildo – sent to me by the UK-based sex shop The Pleasure Garden – is the perfect size for me. At around $21 USD (£17), it’s very affordable too.

(And yes, Pleasure Garden ships to the US!)

the loving joy curved dildo’s design

This dildo is heckin’ firm. It has no squish to it, and while you can bend it if you’re forceful enough, that’s mostly because it’s so slim. The finish is silky soft and doesn’t get as linty as some other silicone toys I own.

The Loving Joy Curved Dildo’s curve and snubbed tip were made for targeted g-spot or prostate stimulation. Because it’s so small, you have to have a pretty good understanding of where you’re trying to stimulate – or be willing to patiently explore.

The flared base (which makes this toy anal safe and strap-on compatible) is technically a suction cup, if you press down firmly against a smooth surface. But I found that with just a little jostling, it pops free again. I don’t know about you, but when I use a dildo, there’s at least a little jostling going on.

Though I wouldn’t blame you for assuming so, the Curved Dildo by Loving Joy isn’t the smallest dildo you can buy from The Pleasure Garden. The Temptasia Twist Small (which you can also buy as part of a sizing up kit) is shorter (4.5”) and thinner (0.75”.)

The Twist Small is much more flexible, which means you’re not getting the same rigid pressure for internal stroking. Depending on your needs, that might make it more appealing. Unlike the Curved Dildo, the Twist Small’s suction cup is functional and strong.

my experience with the loving joy curved dildo

I love when dildos are tapered. A smaller tip makes it easier to insert and adjust to the girth. The Curved Dildo has a slight bump to its head but this was imperceptible to me in use. The shaft’s curve, however, was very noticeable.

The rigid silicone stubbornly held its shape despite my vaginismus. The tip was uncomfortably pokey until I figured out how best to angle it. When thrusting, I performed a rocking scoop motion, and that made it much more enjoyable. It’s a lot like getting fingered, except with more length to work with and no nail to mind.

I think the Curved Dildo is especially great for experimenting with anal. Firm toys are often better for butt stuff if you want to thrust, and the tip will help take some of the guesswork out of prostate stimulation. With its smaller size, though, it might work best with a partner wielding it.

My partner and I gave strap-on sex with the Curved Dildo a valiant attempt, but we’re both fat and need a lot more length to our dildos to accommodate the distance between our bodies. That’s something to keep in mind if you’re considering the Curved Dildo for harness play.

The flared base is narrow, so you’ll need a relatively small ring. Because it’s so stiff, it’s very stable in a harness.

final thoughts on the curved dildo

The Loving Joy Curved Dildo is small, but mighty in its rigidity.

If the prominent curve and prodding tip seem intimidating in such firm silicone, the Temptasia Twist Small is a smaller, softer, and gentler option. I’ve reviewed the three dildo kit it’s part of, and highly recommend picking it up from The Pleasure Garden if your penetration goals include sizing up. (Or if a strong suction cup is a must – the Curved Dildo’s cup just doesn’t work for me.)

The Curved Dildo is ideal for folks looking to simultaneously explore penetration and g/p-spot stimulation, or people who want to try a dildo for their first butt toy instead of a plug. Its hard curve is not for everyone. But with so few options under 1.25”, it’s nice to find a targeted dildo that works for beginners and folks like me.

You can get the Loving Joy Curved Dildo from The Pleasure Garden for $21 USD/£17.
