The days of perusing the dildo section of the average sex shop and only finding penis replicas are (mostly) behind us. While penis-inspired dildos still make up a huge portion of the market, there is a growing supply of brightly-colored, abstractly phallic fuckables for those of us who don’t want toy versions of human parts. (Or who don’t want just that.)

But what about toy dicks of the non-human variety? Outside of mainstream shops, there’s a thriving marketplace of dildos of a more fantastical nature; if you know where to look, you can buy toys modeled after monsters, demons, mythical beings and beasts. But – with a few exceptions – these toys aren’t carried by local shops or big online retailers, so unless you’re already in the know, you’re probably missing out.

So I was pretty delighted to see the Addiction Ben from BMS Factory, a 7-inch silicone monster dick for ‘mainstream’ retailers. Sent to me by the ever-kind Peepshow Toys, the Ben is an uncut-styled cock with a shaft ridged with armor-like plating that brings to mind insects or orcs. It’s bottomed out with a hefty pair of stationary balls and a thin but incredibly effective silicone suction cup. The Ben is black, but its twin – the Addiction Tom – is an eye-searing pink.

Affordable to the point of being kinda suspect (just $24 USD at the time of this review), I had high hopes for the Ben but also secretly worried it would either be uncomfortably rigid or not actually silicone. Luckily, Buster – my partner and ‘stunt cunt’ for most penetration reviews – was as eager as I was to suss this beetle-y boner out.

so about that silicone…

Despite the seemingly too-good-to-be-true price tag, I was pretty sure the Addiction Ben was legitimately silicone as soon as I got it out of the package. It feels a lot like Blush dildos, and it didn’t have any kind of sketchy odor. (Though truthfully, smell isn’t a great indicator of silicone, since silicone is microporous and thus can hang onto factory smells – a short boil or a thorough washing with a 10% bleach solution can help.) But I wanted to be sure, so we set it on fire.

Well, we didn’t set it “on” fire. We held a lighter against it in two different places (the bottom of the balls and the edge of the silicone cup) until it burned enough to produce telltale gray ash as described in DangerousLilly’s Flame Test. The suction cup caught fire, which is not standard behavior for silicone except, for example, when it’s made so soft and thin.

So yes, the BMS Factory Addiction Ben is legitimately made of body-safe silicone.

I have a feeling the minimal packaging is part of what’s made the price so low. The cardboard insert looks like was designed in 1995 for a cheap mousepad, and the plastic itself is just a basic clamshell. (The packaging isn’t tamper-proof/sealed, so if that’s an area of concern for you, just be aware.) There’s also paper-thin bits of excess silicone on the balls and suction cup that you’ll have to tear or trim yourself, left on in what I assume was a labor-saving rush. Time is money!

squish and squash

The Addiction Ben Silicone Suction Cup Dildo is surprisingly squishy. It’s by no means floppy, but it can be bent in half without a whole lot of trouble. It has a robust kind of spring when squeezed, and reminds me of Blush Novelties’ Avant D2 (but a smidge softer) or Tantus’s “super soft” formula silicone. Its suction cup is thin and thus super easy to fold and manipulate – so, contrary to the packaging calling the Ben “compatible with most harnesses,” it’s really kinda… not.

The dildo’s finish is smooth and almost buttery, but it still has a lot of drag. I find myself repeating this in nearly every dildo review, but still: use lube. The in-use glide will go from good to glorious. Just steer clear of silicone-based lubes!

It is definitely a lint magnet, so take care to give it a rinse before use. To clean it, use a gentle soap (such as the kind you use on your face) and water. To sterilize it for use between partners or orifices (always sterilize after anal use if you’re going to use it vaginally later) give it a quick boil or wash with 10% bleach (the same techniques for ridding it of some odors.)

As I said, the Addiction Ben’s suction cup doesn’t work as an anchoring point for harnesses. We tried it with our Temptasia Harness Briefs, and the dildo’s weight pulled the cup free after the slightest jostling because the cup is flimsy and folds in on itself. If you want to use the Ben for strap-on play, you’ll have to situate a harness’s ring over the balls… and then the cup’s presence just becomes a nuisance.

But while it fails to work for harnesses, the Addiction Ben’s suction cup exceeds expectations for its intended purpose. Its thin silicone creates a firm seal on flat surfaces, and it requires some admirable elbow grease to pull free unless you break the seal with a fingertip. It does a pretty good job suctioned to walls as well, as long as you start using it before gravity uses its weight to break the suction. It’s probably the best suction cup in my growing collection, beating out some of my favorite dildos from Blush!

Because the Ben has such a sprightly yield to it, its plating and decorative bumps – perhaps intended to simulate genital piercings – aren’t as harsh of a presence during penetration as may be expected by the uninitiated. Internally, the bumps were virtually unnoticeable; and the plating – when slicked with lube – provided pleasantly irregular texturing that was especially stimulating along the lower vaginal wall. But for Buster, this is definitely a dildo that can’t be rushed: without lube and adequate arousal, the texturing can be unpleasant.

That last point may seem obvious, but since I imagine this may be many folks’ first textured fantasy dildo, it warrants pointing out. Even though the Addiction Ben is on the softer side, its texturing makes its 1.75-inch girth seem much bigger in use, especially if your vagina isn’t yet eagerly on board. Take your time!

Buster really loved the Ben’s head. It’s not bulbous or firm the way most g-spotting heads are; the Ben’s foreskin-crowned tip is tapered and angled just so, teasing Buster’s g-spot in the mild but persistent way they prefer. (Fans of unrelenting g-spot pressure may not get as much out of the Ben without some elbow grease.) The tip is especially nice when Buster holds the dildo still and just grinds with it – often a necessity, because when actively thrusting the balls and the plating will sometimes catch on their prominent inner labia. Steady rocking is their preferred way of using the Ben anyway, because for them the plating feels best with short, wall-massaging movements as opposed to full thrusts.

Besides being a thrusting hazard for Buster’s labia, the Ben’s large, textured balls were an uncomfortable handhold. (The suction cup is too flimsy to be gripped instead.) Their only useful purpose was being held between Buster’s thighs to provide hands-free penetration, a job they performed admirably. But the balls’ realistic flesh wrinkles make them look so out of place on the toy in the first place, I can’t help but be annoyed with them.

The Addiction Ben Silicone Suction Cup Dildo is incontrovertibly a dupe of the Flint, a dildo made by arguably the most prolific fantasy dildo studio, Bad Dragon. There are some key differences – like the unfortunate balls – but the core visual elements are all the same. But concept raiding seems pretty common in the pleasure product industry – several companies I like have been accused of it too – and the Addiction Ben is a ridiculously affordable, body safe fantasy toy that you can actually buy at your favorite shop, so…

Fantasy dildos are great for a number of reasons. They allow toy designers to get even more creative. They give trauma survivors and dysphoric folks unique options for non-human phallic eroticism. They’re a tangible manifestation of a fantasy and can be grounding for roleplaying headspaces. People like them because sometimes they’re more artistic, emotionally safer, or just straight-up monstrously sexy – and I dig them for all of the above and more.

Depending on your perception, the Addiction Ben Silicone Suction Cup Dildo can be the phallus of a number of different creatures. An armor-scaled dragon. An insectoid alien. A piercing enthusiast demon. Buster says it gives them Blue Beetle or Darth Maul vibes. But regardless of the beast or being you imagine when ogling its plated surface, there’s nothing wrong with fantasy – whatever your reason for pursuing it.
