Review: Snail Vibe Dual-Stimulating Thrustable Vibrator

pictured with a snail themed soap dispenser

I love using a wand vibe on my partner. Big, rumbly vibrators like the PalmPower Extreme or the Magic Wand Rechargeable are an easy way to play with intense sensation and forced orgasms.

But I have weak wrists and poor motor skills. Sometimes it’s difficult to juggle a large wand and a dildo at the same time, or hold a wand in place while fingering or fisting my partner. This blows, because they love getting fucked almost as much as I love wringing orgasms out of them.

That’s why the Snail Vibe Dual Stimulator intrigued me so much. It combines the appeal and functionality of wands (powerful vibrations and a wide head) and rabbit vibes (dual stimulation) into a single unique toy. No more juggling.

And hey, who doesn’t love gastropod themed sex toys?

snail vibe design

This wonderful weirdo was sent to me by Peepshow Toys, who only stock body-safe sex toys. The Snail Vibe (which Peepshow carries in purple) is coated with silicone, which is hypoallergenic and non-porous.

There are two incredibly powerful motors in the Snail Vibe: one in the ball for your clit, and one in tip of the shaft. But… where is the shaft?

Like most of the internet, I initially assumed one ball was for clitoral stimulation and the other ball went inside you. But I was looking at the Snail Vibe backwards. Yes, one ball hugs your clit – but the second ball is a handle. The insertable part is the other side of the toy. It doesn’t look like much, but once you start pushing, the curled arm unfurls to make a wider shaft:

The curled arm design keeps the clitoris-stimulating ball pinned against your vulva. Just like the We-Vibe Nova, you can thrust the Snail Vibe in and out without losing contact with your clit.

I’m glad the designers made Snail Vibe Dual Stimulator thrust friendly, because (besides vibrations) the shaft is otherwise functionally inert. My partner Buster likes straight dildos, so (at least conceptually) they don’t mind the ramrod-y shaft. But a lot of people with vaginas prefer some curvature or a bulbous head for g-spot or a-spot stimulation. A cartoony, upturned snail head (sans pokey antennae) woulda been neat!

The Snail Vibe is also incredibly rigid. Besides the curled arm being flexible, every inch of this toy is rock-hard. If you have a sensitive pubic bone or cervix and shudder at the idea of ultra-firm dildos (like stainless steel or glass), the Snail Vibe is not for you. The We-Vibe Nova, while not as powerful, is also thrustable and has a squishy dual layer to its shaft.

Another potential drawback to this rechargeable, waterproof vibrator is its pricetag: $150 (or $135 with code BETTY.) That’s even more expensive than the powerhouse wands I was gushing about earlier. As a bonus, the Snail Vibe comes with a zippered, semi-rigid storage case.

our (my) experience: the good

I really wanted to love the Snail Vibe Dual Stimulator. Even after my friend Felicity (deservedly) eviscerated it in her thorough review. Snail Vibe’s design makes my favorite ways to fuck my partner more accessible to me. It should be my new BFF!

If my review was based purely on my experiences holding the Snail Vibe, it would be all praises. The firm ball handle feels like it was designed for my clumsy hand: it fits in my palm, it’s easy to grip, and it makes thrusting a breeze. The buttons have raised markings so they’re identifiable by touch. No matter how I angle or thrust the toy, the Snail Vibe’s clitoris-stimulating ball never loses contact with my partner’s body.

I feel like the clitoris-stimulating ball is a perfect fit for a fat body, or at least a plush pubic mound. It provides enough pressure to stay put, but it doesn’t pinch or bruise. The vibrations are thumpy and deep and work through the entirety of Buster’s chubby vulva.

Because, yes, the vibrations are fucking exquisite. Oh my god. The motors (which you can control separately) create some of the most powerful, deeply-massaging rumbles I’ve ever felt in a sex toy. The clit bulb is as strong as the Magic Wand Rechargeable; the shaft is even stronger. It’s plenty powerful to indulge in forced orgasm play.

Like all good rabbit-style vibrators, the Snail Vibe lets you control each of the two motors independently. Each motor has two buttons: plus button cycles through 5 intensity levels, squiggle button switches to patterns. I love having so much control. I can, for example, jack up the shaft motor and turn down the clit motor to edge my partner. If you’re very particular about internal vs external vibration, the Snail Vibe gives you lots of range.

The Snail Vibe also wowed me by being a little quieter than the Magic Wand. The shaft motor is just as loud, but it’s muffled in-use because it’s inside you.

our (their) experience: the bad

Unfortunately, my partner’s experiences involve more than the fantastic vibration. They also have to endure the uncomfortable, joyless stabbing of the Snail Vibe’s shaft. While Buster doesn’t mind firm vibrators in general (like the Blush G-Curve), the Snail Vibe Dual Stimulator doesn’t feel like it was designed for vaginal insertion. It feels like using a broom handle.

Broom handling alone would be tolerable. The motor delivers deep, shuddering vibrations, and the shaft can be angled downward (towards, but not reaching, the posterior fornix) for less jarring thrusts. With what’s essentially a wand pinned against one’s clit, it’s hard to complain about a dull fucking.

But the Snail Vibe has another flaw: the split shaft design. It unfurls and fits together easily. But when it’s inside my partner, air gets pulled between the halves with every thrust. Almost like a fireplace bellow, I guess. It creates an uncomfortable suction sensation and drags all the lube into the recess between halves.

(Snail Vibe’s firmness and matte finish necessitates a lot of lube. So it doubly sucks that it disappears.)

I think this happens in part because Buster has a prominent pubic bone. Suction-y sensations have occurred with firm toys before. But it’s never been this intensely unpleasant. I haven’t seen many others discuss this drawback in reviews, so it likely depends on your body. For us, it makes the Snail Vibe too uncomfortable to thrust for long, which minimizes the value of the shaft.

The Snail Vibe is inconvenient to clean, but being waterproof means I can wash it without panicking about accidentally drowning the motor. All it needs is hot water, soap, and special attention to the gunk that gets in the shell-like whorls on the balls and the inside of the split.

That being said, if you’re like me and the Snail Vibe appealed to you because it takes less hand/finger dexterity to use… you’ll probably struggle with getting into those weird spots to clean it. A soft bottle brush can help, just be careful not to scratch the silicone.

final thoughts on snail vibe

My feelings are so mixed. Aspects of this toy are genuinely innovative, and the motors are top notch. But the shaft feels like an unfinished prototype, a “figure out what to do with this” footnote that never got addressed. Except it’s not some minor feature – it’s half of the Snail Vibe’s functionality.

And like 99% of rabbit-style vibes, the Snail Vibe can only be used one way. If you want to fully enjoy the fantastic rumbly vibrations from the clitoris-stimulating ball, you have to at least partially insert the uncomfortable shaft. Otherwise you’re just awkwardly maneuvering the toy around, trying unsuccessfully to mash it against your clit.

I want to see a second, better version of the Snail Vibe. I also want to see an external/wand vibrator with this motor! But I especially want to see less unrealistic, alienating marketing about simulating “intercourse,” and more of the gender neutral language used on their website! I want to see Snail Vibe succeed, because there’s legitimately plenty to love here.
