The Eclipse Thrusting Rotator Probe, or as I like to call it, “the enthusiastic fingering robot.” (I also call it the hungry hungry hippo, but we’ll get to that later.)
Eclipse is a line of body-safe silicone butt toys from CalExotics, which is one of the oldest and largest sex toy companies in the US. SheVibe – who graciously sent me one to review – presently carries five Eclipse toys:
- The Tapered Roller Ball Probe
- The Slender Vibrating Probe
- The Beaded Vibrating Probe
- and The Thrusting Rotator Probe
I chose the Thrusting Rotator Probe because it seemed like the most active toy of the bunch. After falling in love with the gentle self-thrusting Zalo Desire, it was only natural I’d start lustily salivating over other self-moving toys.
It’s 2019 and the world draws ever-closer to ruin, it’s time for me to retire my wrists and let technology do the fucking for me.
Quick Post Navigation
cool but what is it?
So, what does the Eclipse Thrusting Rotator Probe actually do? Well, its probe – that is, the insertable portion – swirls and sways inside you while the base buzzes with vibration patterns. Basically, it’s like if K2SO fingerbanged you. (“Would you like to know the probability of orgasming? It’s high..”)
It’s important to make clear that the Eclipse Rotator Probe is not the same as a fucking machine. Fans of pulsators like Fun Factory’s Stronic line or handheld fucking machines like the Maia Max or Velvet Thruster Teddy shouldn’t expect another thruster – although “thruster” is in this toy’s name as well, it just doesn’t have the range. At this price range, that’s understandable.
eclipse thrusting rotator probe design
The Eclipse Rotator Probe is a modest 1.25 inches in diameter – which is pretty close to two fingers, and is generally considered beginner friendly. Its head is bulbous and gently textured with soft circular ridges for added stimulation, and its shaft is accordion-folded to accommodate the plug’s twisting action.
Weirdly, the probe shaft is actually half hollow. A thin mechanical arm connects the shaft’s head and its base, and if you pinch about halfway up the probe, you’ll feel the silicone coating and… basically just air.
The silicone is sleek, but the Eclipse Thrusting Rotator Probe has absolutely no squish to it. If you don’t already like your plugs on the firm side, this is something to keep in mind.
There’s just one button to click through the plug’s 12 settings, located on the fat end of its t-bar base. When charging or in use, the button glows with a dull red light. The settings include various rotation and vibration combinations, mostly limited to circular swaying and staccato vibration.
The base of the Rotator Probe features a reflective surface. You know, in case you’ve ever wanted to see your face mirrored in your partner’s ass crack. (And if you do, cool! You do you, bud.)
using the eclipse rotator probe: the bite
Inserting the Rotator Probe is pretty easy when your body is used to larger toys, although the toy’s firmness can make it feel bigger in use than it is. If it’s your first anal toy, you may need to do some warm up with your fingers or a more tapered toy first! The bump of the Rotator Probe’s head can make penetration tricky for an untrained or unaroused body.
I’m not super jazzed about anal play and my vaginismus limits me to toys with a 1 inch diameter, so my partner Buster stepped up the guinea pig for this one… And I still feel terrible about it.
Remember how I mentioned that the midsection of the insertable probe is hollow? This becomes a major problem when using the Eclipse Rotator Probe anally.
The plug’s base is heavy and inflexible, and the insertable portion doesn’t have a taper towards the bottom, so the Rotator Probe won’t stay in place on its own like a butt plug would. To get it to stay, one of us has to physically hold the toy in place.
Perhaps it’s just the plushness of my partner’s ass, but the Rotator Probe’s empty midsection sits really close to the top of their inner sphincter. If we’re not actively pressing the probe deeper when the toy is on, Buster’s butthole gets pinched by the folding midsection with every tilt and rotation. Because the middle is hollow, there’s nothing stopping flesh from getting squeezed between the top and bottom of the probe shaft when it bends.
Ever had the inside of your butthole get pinched? My partner doesn’t recommend it.
using the eclipse vibrator probe: the bark
Even when holding the toy to keep it from slipping and trying to hungry hungry hippo my partner’s asshole with its accordion bits, the Eclipse Rotator Probe isn’t great. Almost all of its 12 settings are ruined either by the toy’s limited mechanical strength, or by the waspy distraction of its patterned vibrations.
The probe’s swaying (as shown above) doesn’t have enough force to push against the hug of your body’s internal walls, so the mechanics just noisily whirr away while the toy barely moves. Its movements are so physically restricted they’re indistinguishable from the buzzy pulsations coming from the base. Buster says the Eclipse Rotator Probe just feels like a bad vibrator that pinches, rather than a rotating/thrusting toy.
The frustrating thing is that this toy has potential.
Before we tested the Eclipse Rotator Probe anally, Buster decided to use it vaginally. Ordinarily something so small and firm wouldn’t be much fun to Buster, but the Eclipse Rotator’s length lines it up with the urethral sponge (where most folks’ g-spots are located.)
One setting – tight, rapid spins as the probe rises and falls – pets Buster’s insides in all the right ways, giving their g-spot a slightly erratic massage. They enjoyed this well-targeted sensation more than the actually-meant-for-vaginal-use Zalo Desire. But it’s the only mode Buster can actually feel. The rest are still smothered.
If CalExotics had given this thing some more muscle and had better buffered the midsection, this review would be very, very different.
final thoughts on the eclipse rotator probe
This probe eats ass in all the wrong ways.
All bodies are different, so the Eclipse Thrusting Rotator Probe’s irritating placement in Buster’s butt might not be a mirror of your experience of it. There’s a chance it could fit your body perfectly – at least, if you hold it in place, since it doesn’t fit like a plug would – and its shrill, mechanical wagglings might rock your world. (With the one setting that actually functions, anyway.) But in my opinion, the risk of physical discomfort outweighs the limited positives this probe offers. It’s a good idea, but it functions more like a prototype than a product fit for purchase.
But if CalExotics comes out with a better generation 2? K2SO, I am literally coming for you.
