When writing my reviews for the Temptasia Pussy Pump and the Temptasia Clit & Nipple Enhancement System, my word count became bloated with explanations and tips. I have a lot to say! I realized this information would be more reader-accessible as a guide, so here we all are.
A few caveats:
- This guide is specifically for Temptasia manual trigger/lever pumps, but most of it will still apply to Temptasia’s other pump styles. (I may update this in the future if I can get my paws on other models!)
- My partner and I use these pumps often, but casually. If you’re looking for an exhaustive guide on hardcore pumping, this isn’t the best resource for you.
If you just want some ideas on trying something new or incorporating a little extra succ in your sex life, read on…

about blush novelties’ temptasia manual pumps
Temptasia is a line of sex toys from Blush Novelties that includes dildos, harnesses, and several pumps. Currently, there are four manual* pumps available at various retailers, pictured above from left to right:
- Temptasia Advanced Pussy Pump System
- Temptasia Beginner’s Clitoral Pumping System
- Temptasia Clitoris & Nipple Pleasure & Enhancement System
- Temptasia Intense Pussy Pump System
* In this context, I’m using “manual” to mean that these pumps are controlled by hand.
Temptasia pumps are made of hard plastic, acrylic, and silicone. They retail for $25 to $50 USD.
what can these pumps do, and why do people with vulvas pump?
Clitoral pumps are used to suck and engorge the clitoris and nipples. So called “pussy” pumps are generally used on the outer labia (but the clitoris is often stimulated as well.) People use pumps for a number of reasons, including:
- Enjoying the sensation of the pump’s suction.
- Instigating arousal through “forced” bloodflow.
- Creating temporarily heightened sensitivity.
- Enlarging body parts with temporary swelling, which allows for unique stimulation.
- The visual appeal. (Slick, puffy labia are hot, don’t @ me.)
- Stimulating “cupped” body parts, such as using a vibrator on them for diffused pleasure.
- Chastity/denial play because the body is encased.
Some trans men and nonbinary people use pumps while taking testosterone to encourage bottom growth (the increase in clitoral size that occurs to some people on T) through routine pumping sessions. To my knowledge, there’s no concrete science on whether it’s effective, but anecdotally many trans folks feel it’s benefited them.
how do the temptasia manual pumps work?
Blush Novelties’ Temptasia line has three styles of manual pump: the “Beginner” squeeze bulb, the “Intense” t-shaped pump, and then the lever handle found on both the Advanced Pussy Pump and the Clit & Nipple Pleasure & Enhancement System.
The Temptasia trigger/lever pumps are pretty straight-forward: you place a cup on your anatomy as flatly as possible, and squeeze the spring-loaded lever to create suction. With each subsequent squeeze, your skin is pulled a bit stronger, promoting blood flow that engorges your bits, and – if you pump for awhile – causes temporarily swelling.
When you stop pumping, the vacuum of air created remains constant but doesn’t get any tighter. You can even disengage the cup from the silicone tubing, leaving the cup suctioned in place.
If you want to take the cup off, you can either pull the quick release lever on the handle (such a clever addition), or if you’ve detached the cup, you can use the metal tab on the top to ease the suction so it can be plucked free.
playing with temptasia pumps: on, off, and after
Essentially, there are three states of potential sexual play during pumping: the pumping itself, stimulation utilizing the suctioned cup/cylinder, and playing with swollen/sensitized flesh after the cup’s removal.
DURING PUMPING
The act of pumping can be incredibly stimulating. There’s the firm draw of suction, the rapid tugs of quicker pumping, the kinky thrill of watching your body swell up… While it can be tempting to speed through the process to get to the puffy part, doing so can be painful and misses out on a lot of great play.
Instead, take your time and try some of the following:
- Experiment with pumping speeds. Slow pulls on the trigger feel pretty different than rapid ones! Vary how quickly you release the trigger, too.
- Release the suction and start over again. The first few pumps are often the most intense; doing them over when your flesh is already plump and sensitive is… wow!
- With negotiated permission, get kinky. Dirty talk can be admiring (“your clit/dick is getting so hard, I can’t wait to worship it”), humiliating (“I’m making your pussy lips so big, they’re blocking your greedy cunt”), dominating (“how do you think it will feel to have your swollen nipples bitten?”), etc.
- Place a bullet vibe – like the small but rumbly Vooom – inside the cup and leave it on. It likely won’t stay in place, but all it needs to do is tease as a contrast to the suction. Unf.
- Take pictures to document the swelling process. I have… more than a few.
JUST THE CUP
Detaching the pump handle so you have easier access to play with the cup/cylinder is a feature of the Temptasia lever-style pumps I really appreciate. Sensation play through the cup can feel muffled, heightened, or both.
A few ideas of how to take advantage of this:
Tap your fingertips against the acrylic – the pattering sensation is deliciously jarring.
- Hold a vibrator against the cup/cylinder. Vibrators with a soft, wider surface – such as a small wand vibrator with a soft head like the Noje Fauna Mini Wand or Pillowtalk Cheeky – are less likely to rattle, especially when you hold the cup steady.
- Lick and rub the cup/cylinder while your partner watches, squirming and unable to feel it.
- Role play together. Get weird! Is your partner a robot/doll with their sensitive bits encased until the time is right? Are they your dedicated pet/sub who requires some extra “preparation” for adequate service/use?
- Enjoy other sex acts with the cups still suctioned in place; just check in that they haven’t become painful, and remove them if skin becomes discolored.
- Tease the skin around the cylinder with sensory toys like feathers, ticklers, or wartenberg wheels.
POST-PUMPING
Finally, the big reveal! Taking off the cup/cylinder and getting to play with swollen, hyper-sensitive skin. Even if you didn’t pump long enough to have sustained (albeit temporary) puffiness, there’s plenty of fun to be had with suction-sensitized body parts.
Allow me to suggest…
- The classics – touching, tickling, licking, biting – are likely more intense. Take your time re-exploring them in this context.
- Sensory play like the aforementioned ticklers and wartenberg wheels will be torturous on engorged flesh. Clamps? Oof.
- If pain is the aim, impact play – such as smacking a paddle over plumped parts. Just keep in mind that skin can be so sensitive that it’s difficult it discern when good pain becomes bad pain. Underdo it rather than overdo it.
- Frottage, tribbing, dry humping – rubbing unengorged bits against engorged ones is hot as fuck. Add some lube (hello, Sliquid Sassy) to make sure you don’t rub the wrong way.
- Pinpoint stimulation like bullet vibrators and air pulsation toys might not be possible (or might just be too much) until swelling goes down. Bigger (wands!), or softer and/or gentler (the Iroha Zen is both) toys may be a necessity.
- On the other hand, the very same toys might be even better with puffy or oversensitive bits.
tips, tricks, and troubleshooting
Want things to run smoothly?
- Massage the area you’re going to be pumping before putting the cup/cylinder on. Waking your skin up can result in better, fuller sensations from the start.
- For or a tighter seal, first line the flat-edged opening of the cup/cylinder with lube. I recommend Sliquid Sassy because it’s water-based but still silky and thick. (Thanks for the tip, Ducky DooLittle!)
- If you’ve detached the cup/cylinder from the pump but you’re ready to take it off your body, click the tube back in so you can use the quick-release trigger. It’s much easier than using the cup’s tab.
- Pumping can dry out your skin, so moisturize after. (Or kill two birds with one stone and use The Butters Lube & Moisturizer, which is a natural, buttery-textured lube beloved by other bloggers.)
Can’t get the pump to fit/suction?
- Double-check that the tubing is fully clicked into the cup/cylinder’s nozzle. There should be an audible click as the metal tab on the cup/cylinder moves into place. If it didn’t click, it can’t create/maintain a vacuum.
- Make sure the cup has a flat surface to hold. If you have breasts and are pumping nipples, try laying on your back; it’s easier for the suction to latch when your boobs are pancaked.
- If you have a lot of pubic hair, you may need to trim or shave it for a better fit. You can read about my partner’s struggle here. (Spoilers: the Pussy Pump doesn’t work with their body.)
- The pump cup/cylinder might not be a good fit for your body! (Read the aforementioned piece.) There’s nothing wrong with you – all bodies are unique, and it’s impossible to create something that works for everyone.
- If your clitoris/dick is too large for the clitoris/nipple cylinders, Blush Novelties intends to release larger sizes.
how long can you pump?
How long should you pump and/or leave the cups on? In my opinion, however long you want, as long as you’re listening to your body. If the only thing your body is saying is ‘ouch,’ then give it a rest for a minute. After a pause, try squeezing the handle one more time, and if it’s still ‘ouch!’, then your body is letting you know it’s done with this shit. Respect your body’s wishes.
If you have limited genital sensation or difficulty assessing pain, and thus struggle to discern when your body is done, then my advice is to stick to under ten minutes of sustained use. Pumps promote blood circulation but suction will slow it down; limited blood circulation isn’t great for any part of your body.
I like to pump in intervals, giving my body time to adjust to the suction in between bouts of squeezing the handle. If I detach the cups and leave them on for awhile, I take them off my body when the ache turns into a sting. This means I don’t get to keep the swelling effect for more than a few minutes, but I’m fine with that!
But these are just my opinions based on first hand experience, I’m not a doctor.
final thoughts
Hopefully this was of some use to you! Despite only being at it since last year, I’ve become a pretty avid fan of pumping for pleasure – and for pain. Like so many other things I’ve tried since starting this blog, my only regret is that I didn’t experience it until now.
I said this in my reviews, but I think it deserves repeating: these pumps are budget-friendly, but hardy and straightforward enough to handle the curiosity and clumsiness of first timers. If you want to give vulva, nipple, or clitoral/cock pumping a chance, I genuinely recommend them. I spent more money on Avengers tickets than I did my Temptasia Clit & Nipple System.
