When I saw Zalo’s “Sweet Magic” luxury line – featuring the Confidence Wand Massager, Desire Self-Thruster, and Courage G-Spot Massager – I was immediately enamored. Each piece looks freshly plucked from a big budget erotic parody of Sailor Moon.
But this review is for one toy in particular: the Zalo Confidence Preheating Silicone Wand Style Massager.
Sleek pastel pink silicone (or purple), a gold plastic base, and a sparkling Swarovski crystal on the heart-shaped control lever… The Zalo Confidence Wand takes the concept of a wand vibrator and infuses it with a cutesy, witchy allure. Like the rest of the Sweet Magic line, it’s a sex toy that wouldn’t look amiss in a magical girl anime, assuming that the heroine was an adult and the villains were consenting to a very different kind of battle.
In addition to a spunky aesthetic, the Confidence Wand boasts a delightful array of features. It’s rechargeable, meaning vanquishing evil won’t require batteries. It has 8 vibration settings (2 steady speeds and 6 patterns) and a heating mode. It purports to be quiet and flexible. And it comes with a storage bag – though the packaging it’s in is well-worth keeping!
Like the Desire Self-Thrusting Dildo, the Zalo Confidence Wand was originally sent to me by SheVibe in exchange for an honest review.
I love working with SheVibe; their staff is dedicated and attentive to customers, and their impressive inventory of sex toys is sorted into easy-to-browse categories. Wondering how big a toy is, what it’s is made of, or if it’s harness compatible? SheVibe’s detailed listings will tell you. (SheVibe no longer carries this toy, so all links now go directly to Zalo USA.)
Quick Post Navigation
appreciating design by moonlight…
The Confidence Wand is about 9 inches long, and its bulbous head is 1.7 inches in width. Besides its flexible neck, the toy – including the wand head – is firm, with an incredibly soft and smooth silicone finish. The neck and a portion of the shaft will bend with force, which is unappealing news for those who need firm, pinpoint pressure; the Confidence Wand Style Massager was definitely designed for folks that enjoy broadly-applied vibrations and a fair bit of give.
There are several small touches to the Confidence’s appearance that I love. The shaft has some column-like indenting and some embellishing on either side of Zalo’s logo. The plastic base has a rippled/twisted texture that encourages the gold to gleam when the light catches it. And of course, the tiny Swarovski crystal. Like the Desire Self-Thrusting Dildo, the Confidence is a lovely blend of cutesy and elegant.
talking about controls by daylight…
The Confidence Wand Style Massager is controlled by a tiny lever on its base. To turn it on, press the lever backwards; a white light will turn on at the lever’s base. Press it again to click through the settings, and pull it forward to go back a setting. The heating feature is initiated by holding the lever down until the light turns red. To turn the Confidence off, pull the lever forwards and hold it until the light goes out.
It was initially weird to use a lever instead of buttons, but after I got used to it, I started to appreciate how much easier it was to operate the Confidence Wand without looking. No more pawing around for minuscule silicone indents and clicking the wrong button!
For a tiny plastic thing, it’s pretty sturdy too.
looking for vibrations that are just right
I’m always nervous to try a vibrator from a brand that’s new to me. Will it be weak and buzzy? Will I have to spend hours testing a toy that makes me itchy and frustrated?
Fate – and Zalo – was kind to me with the Confidence Wand: while it’s not as strong as I was hoping, its vibrations are definitely on the rumbly side of the buzz/rumble spectrum. The orb-shape of the wand head tucks comfortably between my thick outer labia, and the vibrations patter past the surface like a ripple rather than a shiver.
Comparatively, the Confidence’s highest setting sits somewhere between the similarly priced Sola Cue’s second setting. So it’s almost as strong as the Noje Mini Wand, which is half the price. But since a large slice of this toy’s appeal isn’t its functionality (cus let’s be honest here, we want it cus it’s cute as fuck) I don’t feel cheated by the lack of pelvic-pummeling fury. (But if you were lured in hopes of a lightweight, flexible, and cordless but powerful wand, try the PalmPower instead.)
But though I’m not disappointed in the vibration quality, I’m pretty disappointed in Zalo’s choice to limit the Confidence Wand to just two steady settings. That’s some oldschool Hitachi Magic Wand nonsense… A minimum of three speeds is a reasonable expectation of a modern vibrator, in my (snobby) opinion. Three gives folks a range to work with, either to find their ideal spot, or to build up to orgasm at their own pace. Give Goldilocks some options!
she is the one named… patterns, boo!
The most jarring thing about the Zalo Confidence Wand’s dearth of steady speeds is that the varied strengths used in its six patterned settings include more than just two speeds. The ability to have varying steady speeds was there – they just relegated it to round out the patterns. Boo! BOOO!
The Confidence Wand has two rapid pulse settings: the bzzt-bzzt-bzzt, and a bzbzbzbz. If you’ve ever had a vibrator with patterns, you know what I mean. It also has two ramp-up settings (one quick and pulsing, the other slow and with a pause), and two weird ones with varied speeds.
preheating that will never overextend
I own plenty of vibrators that heat up during use, but that’s usually an unfortunate byproduct of long sessions and smothering outer labia. It’s weird to have a function designed to heat a toy up on purpose – there are plenty of other heated toys, the Zalo Confidence Wand Style Massager is just the first I’ve used.
The heat is largely concentrated in the toy’s bulb. It warms up gradually over two minutes, after which the feature automatically shuts off. It’s definitely hotter than body temperature, but not by much. As a Floridian, I’m not likely to use the heating mode often… but it was nice when the temperature dropped in February. It certainly wasn’t like feeling the warmth of skin-on-skin, but when paired with vibration, it was a sear of added sensation that I could enjoy rather than panicking that my toy was about to forcibly shut off.
It does cool down again, at which point you can click the warming back on.
flexible neck that can 360-degree bend
Because of the Zalo Confidence Wand’s flexibility and head shape, I can’t get the targeted pressure on the side of my clit like I prefer… but a wand isn’t meant for that. It’s meant to provide broadly-distributed massaging, and the Confidence Wand definitely achieves this. If you prefer a narrower delivery of stimulation but like the Confidence’s look and flexibility, you might want to check out another of Zalo’s Sweet Magic line, the Courage.
I like to hold the Confidence Wand like a pencil, just above the neck, so I have greater control over how firmly I press it against myself. The neck bends to compensate for my body when I rock my hips or tilt the handle. The vibrations do travel into the handle/shaft during use, but because they’re already so mild, it doesn’t cause my hand to cramp up like most vibrators do.
prong charger on whom we can depend
When the Confidence Wand needs to be recharged, the light beneath its lever will begin blinking slowly in warning.
On the back of the toy, there’s a silicone tab that pulls free to expose a charging port. The Confidence Wand Style Massager charges via USB cord (you can plug it into your computer, or the charger adapter for most phones) and takes an hour to charge. I actually really love the charge cord for the Confidence, it clicks solidly into place and it’s vastly superior to finickier pin-tipped cords that rely on weak magnets to stay.
Zalo says a single charge should get 2-4 hours of use. I hog the highest setting and repeatedly click the heating mode, and I get somewhere between 1.5 and 2 hours.
she is the one named… not waterproof!
The Zalo Confidence Wand is “splashproof”, not waterproof. This means you can’t submerge it when cleaning! You can hold it under running water for a few seconds while cleaning it before/after use. A mild handsoap and some hot water will do.
Be mindful of the silicone lip at the base, as it can collect gunk; I check it with a swipe of my fingernail.
The Confidence Wand’s lack of waterproofing doesn’t irritate me as much as it did with its Zalo sibling, the Desire Thruster. The Desire is $140 USD; the Confidence is (currently) $74 USD. While the Confidence Wand isn’t technically luxury pricing, it’s close enough that consumers should be able to count on it for bathtime and easy cleaning.
she is the one… confidence wand!
The Confidence Wand Style Massager doesn’t have enough power or vibration speed variety to wow power royalty (or me), but its rumbliness, flexibility, and heating feature set it apart from other mild-mannered toys. It’s cute as fuck, and feels both fun and luxurious in my hand due to its adorable design and pleasingly silken silicone finish. It’s quiet, comes with a storage bag, and rechargeable. If it were waterproof and had a wider, stronger range of steady vibration settings, it would be practically perfect.
This toy will work best for folks who find themselves cringing away from the intimidating strength of traditional wands, who still want a vibrator with a broad head (for its size), flexible neck, and comfortable handle. You just have to be willing to skip out on me time in the tub.
