In 2022 I got into two kinds of metal. The kind with guitar solos… and the kind with g-spot curves. Earlier this year, the friendly folks at L’Acier – one of Velvet Thruster’s brands – sent me one of the latter.

The L’Acier Capo is a stainless steel dildo… that vibrates. It’s shaped to be phallic, which is another rarity for metal dildos!

Best of all it comes with removable handles. Stainless steel is sleek so it can be tricky to hold, so that’s good news! Or at least, one hopes so..

The Capo Stainless Steel Dildo is a feature-packed piece of machinery. Most metal dildos are dual-ended, but the Capo is a reverse mullet: party in the front, business in the back. In the front you have a smoothly curved metal head, shaped for g-spot stimulation. In the back you have a port for a removable bullet vibe and two detachable handles.

Like all stainless steel dildos, the Capo is startlingly heavy. Part of the shaft is hollow (for the bullet vibe), and it’s still at least 2 pounds. The Capo’s weight and steel rigidity makes it a powerful tool for pressure – specifically, firm g-spot stimulation.

You can technically use the Capo for prostate play too. But the handle attachment (which would be your flared base ‘stopper’ to keep the toy from sinking too deep) can be jiggled free with force, so I’d caution against anal use if your play veers careless or rough.

As a recent-ish convert to realistic dildos, I’m tickled by the L’Acier Capo’s semi-realistic design. The head is flat on the sides, and the coronal ridge is a smooth, round bump that’s angled like the Le Wand Arch. (I love tight curves like this, they remind me of fingers posed in the ‘come hither’ gesture for g-spots.) The shaft is sleek and featureless except for a subtle hump on the topside.

Stainless steel is slippery smooth, reflective, and cold (but warms to your touch.) You can use any lube, including silicone-based lubes, which stay slippery longer but can’t be used with silicone toys. Just remember that solid metal toys are heavy – if this sucker slips from your grip and drops on your foot, your neighbors are gonna learn all your favorite four letter words.

The Capo’s business end has a few cut-out slots to fit the interchangeable plastic handles. The edges of my slots aren’t sharp, but they’re a little rough if you press your fingertips against them.

The smaller handle is a cap with a loop on it. The larger handle – which is as long as the dildo itself – is a ridged hilt. The grip is pretty heavy duty, but the spine of it is thin so it’s semi-flexible (at least side-to-side.) The plastic isn’t seamless – there’s some scuffs from manufacturing – but like the dildo’s slots, nothing is scratchy. It’s chunky and comfortable to hold.

Last but not least is Capo Stainless Steel Dildo’s optional bullet vibe. It’s longer than traditional bullets, rigid, and has a powdery-soft silicone finish. It has 3 steady speeds and 7 patterns, which you control with a single soft silicone button. It’s surprisingly easy to pop the vibe and out of the Capo’s deep port, and is about half an inch longer than the hole so easier to grasp.

The L’Acier Capo is girthier than my beloved Le Wand Arch. Stainless steel doesn’t yield against clenching muscles, so the Capo’s 1.5ish inch diameter head feels even bigger in use than a similarly sized silicone toy.

My partner Buster – who tests all of the insertable sex toys featured on this blog – loves the weighty feeling of fullness the Capo provides. It sinks in, sleek with lube (including long-lasting silicone lube), and maintains constant pressure. If you don’t have a hand to spare for thrusting, fret not: Capo’s heavy presence makes the most of rocking your hips or tensing your pelvic muscles. Wiggle and the weight will do the rest.

That being said, not everyone will enjoy a stainless steel dildo. Their weight and rigidity makes them more laborious to use. For folks who love pressure, the work out (for both wrist and pussy) is usually worth it.

Capo’s shape is so thoughtful. The head curves upward like fingers curling “come hither.” The toy scoops up behind my partner’s pubic bone, its bulbous tip stroking tender inner flesh; on the outstroke, the head’s flared crown provides a subtle hook to ‘tug’ with. It’s like a wider version of the Le Wand Arch’s smaller end, which I called “reminiscent of firm fingering […] about the same surface area as two prone fingertips, but with inhumanly consistent pressure. If you like rigid, ultra-targeted g-spot stimulation – unf!”

Capo’s design is thoughtful – but your thrusting has to be too. Unlike soft dildos that will squish if your ramrodding goes awry, stainless steel will hit you with two pounds of bruising pressure. Capo is best used with scooping thrusts (dip-push instead of just push) to avoid pummeling the pubic bone or crashing into the cervix.

But don’t let precaution turn you off! Once you’ve mastered the angles, the thorough massage that sleek steel provides is unmatched. Glass provides the same rigidity, but without the weight. If you’re nervous about wielding two pounds of pressure, a glass dildo might be a better start – but maybe keep the Capo bookmarked for later?

Now onto what makes Capo so different from its steel peers: the vibrations. Metal sex toys are a rarity, and ones with vibrations are even rarer. There’s the occasional brushed metal bullet, rose gold necklace, or aluminum butt plug that buzzes. But L’Acier sets itself apart from fellow steel dildo makers Njoy and Le Wand by making Capo, the beaded Slide, and the angled Reverb vibrate.

I was hoping for deep, metal-trembling rumbles – but instead L’Acier’s removable bullet delivers a mild, buzzy whisper. It’s much stronger in hand than in dong (which makes sense: stainless steel is bound to muffle the motor), but that just makes it itchier. I definitely don’t love single-button controls, either, since if you click too far you’re stuck cycling through 10 settings to get back to the start.

Instead, we like using the Je Joue Classic Bullet. (We also tried the Tango and Blush Power Vibe, but they’re plastic so they rattle too much.) Just pop it in place and leave the buttons (there’s three, bless them) free so you can adjust the settings. The steel dampens the Je Joue Classic’s vibrations too, but it’s still a pleasant extra layer of sensation, especially when the Capo isn’t being thrusted.

I was so excited by the Capo’s detachable handles. Capo’s silicone counterpart – the Smartee Easy-Use Vibrator – is marketed as plus size friendly because it has the same angled handle as the Capo. I was hoping the handle would extend my partner’s reach and perhaps even better orient the toy for solo use.

Unfortunately, for us fat folks, the handle is definitely more obstacle than accessibility accessory.

First, let’s talk positives. Both handles fit very snugly onto the L’Acier Capo’s base (and can even be tricky to get on/off.) That’s good news, because with a toy this heavy you don’t want a grip you can’t trust. As much as I love the Le Wand Arch, that dildo slips and slides in my grasp the entire time. Even if you don’t use the loop on the smaller handle, having the plastic there still makes for a safer hold.

The large angled handle is ideal for partnered use. If you face the handle out, it gives the penetrating partner a much further reach. Because it gives the best view, I often like to sit up next to Buster in bed while I fuck them by hand. The semi-flexible handle can wiggle if I’m not mindful about how I thrust, but otherwise it’s a great addition that reduces strain on my wrist and elbow. The rigid material is easy to clean if my fingers are lubey – just make sure you rinse out those ridges!

But as far as being fat-friendly, I’m gonna have to sadly declare this handle a misfire. From my partner’s notes: “It makes it impossible to actually push the toy completely in. The handle angles right into my pubic mound and belly. The sharp V shape of handle and dildo together means you’d have to carry no weight in your lower body and/or your vagina has to be a straight line. As is, the handle hits your mound or belly, or the toy’s curve hits your pubic bone, or both, and neither are flexible enough to keep going.”

Perhaps with a softer and thus more flexible toy, L’Acier’s angled handle would work better for reaching over bellies. But when dealing with unyielding steel, it just didn’t work. Maybe if the handle were taller at the base like the Silc Touch?

The Capo is a feature-packed 7 inches of sleek stainless steel. Unfortunately, the features (vibration and detachable handles) are a mixed experience. The vibrator port is best utilized by a better bullet than L’Acier’s. The arched handle isn’t the fat friendly accessory we were hoping for.

That being said, having these options at all is an exciting innovation in a pretty niche corner of dildoland. I hope future L’Acier products improve/expand them.

Even without considering the bonus features, the Capo is worth copping if you’re excited by pressure. What’s not to love about two pounds of fuckable stainless steel? Particularly steel shaped into something more intuitive than the polarizingly abstract Pure Wand (which, while famous for its unrelenting g-spot/prostate stimulation, has a notoriously steep learning curve.) The Capo’s curved head offers a firm g-spot massage at just the right angle for my partner.
