Review: Kink Rechargeable Automatic Pussy Pump by Doc Johnson

A close-up of the Kink Pumped Automatic Vibrating Pump laying on its side.

When I think of vulva pumps, I usually picture something with a manual lever and tubing. Like the Temptasia Advanced System or the Fetish Fantasy Pussy Pump. But these days there are plenty of automatic pumps that work with the touch of a button. Many of them ditch the gangly tubing, too.

The Kink Automatic Vibrating Pussy Pump is one such toy.

Spoiler alert: I love this pump. It looks like an oversized spoon and it sucks like it’s trying to pull me into the Void. (I’ll happily go if queer babe DeObia Oparei is still there.) It’s a straight-forward, self-contained system that’s perfect for pussy pumping on the go. Not that many of us are currently hooking up or going on vacation, at least not in this shitty timeline…

The Kink Automatic Vibrating Pussy Pump’s firm plastic cup is 3.75 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. That’s very petite compared to my vulva, but I’m 6 feet tall, fat, and handsome. (Last fact technically unrelated.) To soften the rigid edge, the cup has a smooth silicone trim. The silicone is removable for easy cleaning, but the cup itself is permanently attached to the handle.

The entire toy is pretty compact, just 9 inches long in total. That’s not much longer than most dildos. Its self-contained design is less fuss to take out and use than pumps like the Fetish Fantasy Pussy Pump.

The Kink Automatic Pump has 3 buttons on its chunky handle: vibration, suction, and pressure release.

A release button is a must-have on any pump, but especially one like this. The Kink Automatic Pump has 3 suction intensity levels, but all of them are continuous suction. That means it starts sucking and it doesn’t stop unless you turn it off or use the release.

The buttons are smooth plastic. While they’re easy to find by touch and don’t take much force to press, they don’t have indented markers telling you which is which. Luckily the release button is different, so you can immediately identify it.

This pump is made by industry giant Doc Johnson. (Many of their other bajillion toys are made with materials I consider suss, but this pump is made of body-safe silicone and hard plastic.) While it’s under their Kink label (a collaboration with porn empire Kink.Com) it’s technically just a rebrand of the Doc Johnson Automatic Vibrating Pump. So if the dark colors don’t work for you, there’s a pink and white alternative.

getting a good fit

Vulva pumps work best on flat expanse of plump, hairless skin. You can line the rim of the cup or cylinder with thick lube like Sliquid Sassy for a better grip and seal.

My vulva is fat, so it’s easy for pumps to find purchase. My partner’s outer labia are narrow and have a gap between them, and their vulva is shorter than mine. Most pumps they’ve tried have to sit at a tilt, which prevents them from getting an airtight seal. (Finding the right angle can be tricky since the Kink Pump is rigid and its cup can’t move like the Roto Suck-Her does.) Buster also has a thick bush, and there’s no way they’re ditching it just to use a pump.

I have no problem getting the Kink Pump stay in place. Buster, however, has to use the cup to squish their labia together so it has a “flat” surface to suction on. After the suction is engaged, the cup generally stays in place. The Kink Pump is the face hugger of pussy pumps: it grabs you and it doesn’t let go.

While the cup width is too small to fully envelop our voluptuous vulvas, it’s deeper than the CalExotics Pro Intimate Pump. There’s enough room in the cup to draw most of our labia in to swell them until the cup’s stuffed full. Because the plastic is clear, you can mostly watch this as it happens. Body heat does tend to fog it up.

Unlike the Bloom Automatic Pump (also by Doc), the Kink Automatic Pump has just one cup. If you’re concerned that its shape won’t work with your vulva, you might want to save up for the pricier Bloom.

my experience using the kink automatic pump

This pussy pump on a stick is intense. There are 3 suction speeds, but even the lowest setting feels like a vacuum sucking up your cooch. It’s strangely mouth-like, because as your body fills the cup (which only takes seconds), the sloped silicone edges press against your skin like teeth. Not biting, but definitely present.

As I said before, the Kink Automatic Pump only offers continuous suction. If you need a break from the vacuum, you have to hit the release button or turn the pump off. I like to pulse the air pressure by repeatedly tapping the release. It feels exquisite. Despite how hard and fast the suction is, the pressure lets up immediately when you hit the release.

I like firm touches and sucking on my labia. I love that I can pick up the Kink Pump and have full control of that sensation myself, with relatively little fuss.

Sometimes while pumping, I’ll hold the release button for 10+ seconds to let the blood rush to my crotch again. This makes the suction feel more intense. In my experience, it also helps create temporary swelling after a lengthy pumping session. So if that’s what you’re looking for in a pump, staccato the suction!

Once the cup is stuffed full, there’s no room left to suck out air. That means that – though the tight pressure is maintained – you’re no longer feeling the suction. If a stimulation plateau isn’t for you, the Kink Automatic Pump also vibrates.

Unfortunately for me, the vibrations are just a garnish. You can feel them buzzing through the toy, especially in the handle, but they’re super shallow and diffused. I think they work as a buzzy tease once you’re encased in the cup, but they’re definitely not a main attraction. There’s no part of the cup that carries the vibrations well enough for me to get off with, even if I don’t use it like a pump.

The vibrations also add to this toy’s noise. The Kink Automatic Pump is a powerful little pump, so its suction makes a noisy droning that can be heard above a fan or A/C because of its shrillness. It’s not as loud as my Magic Wand Rechargeable, but it’s no whispery hum either.

final thoughts

Is the Kink Automatic Pump from Doc Johnson worth its (currently as of this posting) $70 pricetag? It’s almost twice the price of the manual Temptasia Advanced System, which has a deeper cup but requires a lot more force and fuss to operate. It’s $20 cheaper than the Bloom, which is also rechargeable and comes with 4 interchangeable heads for more range.

For my specific pumping needs, my answer is yes. I love this plucky little pussy spoon. It’s incredibly easy to operate, it’s compact, it’s pretty easy to clean and travel with. It has a plug-in charge cord rather than the sometimes flimsy magnetic cords so many sex toys have these days. It’s an attractive red and black to match the Kink Stinger. It’s not really built for creating substantial plumping/swelling, but that’s never my goal with pumps.

And hey – the packaging is gender neutral! The box highlights the product rather than a model, and the hyping text on the back is assumption free. Hurrah!

If the Kink Automatic Vibrating Pump from Doc Johnson sounds like it suits your needs, you can find it on SheVibe for $80 USD. You can also find its pink and white version.
