Review: Death Star “Space Station” Ball Gag by Geeky Sex Toys

In pre-pandemic times, my partner Buster kept most of their Star Wars merch on their desk at work. Now they work from home, and Star Wars lurks in every corner of our new apartment. There’s a baby “Yoda” on top of our fridge, Clone Wars figures on the desk, a Chewie coffee mug wherever Buster is, and a Death Star ball gag on our bondage rack.

That last one is probably my favorite.

We ordered the Space Station Ball Gag from Geeky Sex Toys (which is based in Australia) back in April. It was stuck in pandemic shipping limbo for weeks, stranded without a way overseas. There was nothing GST or anyone else could do. Luckily, the package finally arrived in the US in June.

International shipping times have been improving ever since, but you should still expect a longer wait than before.

The Space Station Ball Gag is one of 4 Star Wars inspired Geeky Sex Toys. There are also 2 full-size wand vibrators – Darth Vibrator and R2-V2 – and the LED Laser Sword, a light-up dildo that comes in 4 colors.

Like all of Geeky Sex Toys’ products, the Space Station Ball Gag is made of body-safe silicone. The ball is pretty firm and squishes just slightly when squeezed.

The Death Star’s details have been drastically toned down, likely to avoid Disney kicking down the doors at Geeky Sex Toys’ two-person studio. The silicone ball is made from two pieces of silicone sealed together; it’s effectively sealed, but the seam is pretty obvious and cheapens the overall look.

The strap is made of faux leather with metal fastenings. It has a max length of 22.5 inches, which fits my partner on the 7 hole of 12. (That’s notable because their wonderfully precious head is too big for most hats and gags. This gag has some range!)

I’ll admit this up front: my love for this gag is more about novelty than function. This is a Star Wars household (although Michael Burnham is still reigning queen of space operas) and the ability to bring it into the bedroom in physical form is fucking delightful.

In actual use, the Space Station Ball Gag is just alright.

The ball is too large for my tiny mouth and overactive gag reflex, but Buster says it’s a comfortable width for them. It’s just pliable enough to chew on without hurting your teeth. Silicone can be marked up or severed with enough pressure, so be mindful of your chomping.

The silicone is tasteless, and its smooth lining details can be felt against your tongue. Something to keep a rebel spy or insubordinate officer busy instead of sassing or spilling secrets.

A comparison between the Space Station Ball Gag and D20 Ball Gag.
Are you fannish impulses closer to taverns and tabletops than space? Geeky Sex Toys also has a D20 Ball Gag.

The Space Station Ball Gag is definitely a drool-inducer. During particularly heavy play scenes, Buster has literally gargled as they groaned. Hot!! The ball’s girth and how tightly it fits in their mouth blocks most of the wearer’s spit from leaking out, so if you’re fond of a drooling sub aesthetic, just know you’ll have to work for it.

I wouldn’t recommend wearing the Space Station Ball Gag for long. The faux leather pulls on the corners of your mouth and leaves marks on your face after prolonged use or lots of head movement. The straps can’t be removed for easier cleaning, and the material soaks up your spit. Other gags I own and love – like the Scandal Stopper Gag – have silicone wings that fit against your lips, keeping the straps away from your mouth. The Space Station Ball Gag could benefit from that distancing.

The gag is otherwise super comfortable to wear. The buckle is easy to use, and all of the gag’s metal is smooth and unnoticeable in use unless it’s cold.

final thoughts

Close-up of the Space Station Ball GagWhile I think this Death Star ball gag could use some tweaks to improve its appearance and functionality, I think it’s a novelty worth snagging for $50 USD.

We’ve had a lot of fun using it for role play. (Most often pretending it’s an architecture model used in a presentation, repurposed in a moment of clever horniess. Gagging an enemy and then mocking them about the Death Star’s impending destruction is very fun.) Its value as a prop for nerdy nudes is unparalleled.

But if the novelty isn’t your main motivator, there are cheaper and less interesting gags you can wear more comfortably.
