A Fresh Coat of Paint and Puppy Vlogging | July Favorites

A timely posted monthly wrap up, in this economy? Not gonna happen, y’all. (Especially when you don’t have internet for most of August and can’t post anything.)

[Description: Buster (a white nonbinary person with sideshaved black and blue hair) and Betty (a white nonbinary person with glasses and pink-topped hair) on a beach with the ocean in the background.)
The first half of July was entirely dedicated to spending time with my niece, who I met for the first time! Buster was able to pay for her plane tickets as well as take the whole family to the zoo, which we’d been planning and saving for all year. Totally worth it! Niece loved the beach, so Buster and I got to visit Daytona more during July than we have in the year and a half since we got married there.

I wrote a lot in July, but slacked off on editing, so the fruits of my labor will end up as (late) August and early September blog posts instead. Oops!

Out of the Toy Chest

❤ Oh boy oh boy do I love the Avant Pride P3 that SheVibe sent me. Buster has fucked me with it several times now, and every time my body seems a little more receptive. I don’t think penetration without pain is ever going to be possible for me, but fucking with tolerable pain is a delicious experience I’ll gladly settle for.

❤ My first time with the Satisfyer Pro Plus Vibration (received in this quarter’s Big Oh! Box, you can read my full review here) was a religious experience. Buster had to hold it in place for me because I was trembling and its handle is a little too short to grasp when I’m already preoccupied. I’m usually pretty vocal during sex, but I was nearly silent until I abruptly started hollering as I came. I was that overwhelmed! Air pulse stimulators are my new favorite… but only for special occasions, because otherwise I’ll piss off my neighbors.

❤ Buster has been looking super handsome when wearing the Temptasia Harness that Peepshow Toys sent us. I’m madly in love with the briefs style and Buster says it’s really comfortable and natural feeling. They’ve also indulged me a few times in wearing the Kixies that SheVibe sent us around the house, and woof do they fit well! Reviews for both are upcoming – though the Kixies will have to wait until late September, because Halloween Horror Nights at seems like the perfect time for a public trial so we can test their durability!

Into the Bedroom

❤ Buster needed some scene time to cope with work stress, so they shed their usual nurturing dom role and let me work them over. Because Buster didn’t want to go into subspace, I had to get creative with the scene and the results were delicious and fun. You can read about it in A Taste of Submission. I’m thinking about writing pieces like that more often, wonder if there’s any interest?

❤ Being autistic, I’m very sensory-sensitive and can become overwhelmed easily. Skin-to-skin contact is one of my most inconvenient sensitivities (I love to sleep and fuck naked.) During a recent roll in the sheets, I started getting antsy about Buster touching me even incidentally, and it manifested as intense ticklishness that had me in frustrated tears. I didn’t want to stop having sex, so Buster gave me some gentle doming, consolingly talking me through my anguish as they worked me to orgasm. It was a new and enlightening experience to just consensually suffer through an overload, since I usually just tap out. I’m not sure if I’d like to do it again, but I didn’t hate it!

The Pleasant Distractions

❤ I’d heard good things about Harlots (a Hulu original), and I was not disappointed when I started binge watching it this month. Set in 1763, Harlots is about a brothel, the family that maintains it, and London culture that both buoys and persecutes them. It’s the most progressively framed period piece I’ve ever watched, with themes that are all too familiar for sex workers today. The second season (which I am halfway through) has gotten more casual about characters being bigoted (ableist, racist) without the behavior being clearly examined and condemned, but I’ve always preferred spoonfed moral framing. It does deal with domestic violence, sexual assault, and slavery, so be mindful of your well-being if you choose to watch.

❤ I love Watts the Safeword for the excellent, approachable sex and kink education (which both introduces and helps normalize a broad range of topics), but I also just love Amp’s editing style and his dynamic with his Daddy. In July, Amp posted a two-part travel vlog that covered the AIDS Lifecycle, LA Pride, and a visit to Universal. Amp’s vlogs are always a treat to watch because he has a good eye for interesting shots, a great sense of pacing, and knows just when to add humorous edits and interjections to uplift scenes that might otherwise go unappreciated. And it’s really affirming to watch unabashed queerness and kinkiness being portrayed in such a fun, normalizing way. Watch his trip with Mr Kristofer in Part 1 and Part 2.

Some Reordered Priorities

❤ If you’re familiar with my blog, you’ve probably seen me mention the fact that my partner and I live in an RV. It was made in 1988, so it’s got plenty of things that need fixing or updating now that we’ve paid it off, and one of those things was the bed alcove. We finally set aside the time and money to freshen it up with some paint (Spring Green), new curtains and bedding, and a little TLC for the back wall. It’s so much nicer now with a modernized aesthetic, it’s a delight to sleep and fuck in. I can’t wait to slowly spruce up the rest of the RV to match. I’ll be writing a full post on why we finally made our bedroom a priority, so look out for it sometime in September!

❤ After all the family time earlier in the month, Buster and I have spent most of our evenings and weekends hanging out at home or going to a local park to play Pokemon Go. It’s been nice just watching cooking competition shows and cuddling instead of going out. There’s no one I’d rather be lazy with than Buster.

❤ Buster wore their boots out completely recently, so we hunted down a cheap pair to replace them. We got theis pair from Amazon ($26), with spiked toes and aesthetic buckles on the back. They have a vers punk boy vibe, like I’m just as likely to find myself on the floor with the spikes an inch from my face as I am to hear the soles scuff against the ground as I rail their wearer from behind. And since it’s Buster wearing them, well… #accurate

Betty Butch Around Town

The first of two blog posts I’ve written for Big Oh! Box was posted to their blog in July. I got to write about my favorite aspect of their service: the ability to choose the type of toy you receive in your quarterly delivery!

Being specific about our needs allows us to advocate for our own pleasure. Even though I have a vulva, I’ve always preferred clitoral stimulation and have shied away from services that don’t let me opt out of penetration toys… which is most of them. My needs and my identity can’t be summed up in a clumsy catch-all category like “female.” I’m not female. I’m not a fan of every toy type geared towards my anatomy. So I’m grateful for choice-based models like Big Oh! Box’s that not only don’t gender their categories, but structure them to allow customers to choose what we know we like. Because what we actually like is valid, important, and deserves consideration, even in a mystery box.

Please take a minute to read the full piece: Every BO!B is an Adventure. Then give Big Oh! Box a follow on Twitter, so they’ll have more reason to commission blog posts in the future 😉

Here’s to hoping for an even better August. ✌
