Review: Gplug Twist Butt Plug by Gvibe

I have a weakness, and it’s cute sex toys.

The Gplug Twist is simple – and definitely cute. Its almond body is shaped into a spiral with thick, smooth ridges that end in a blunted point. It reminds me of an icecream cone, and I kind of wish it came in corresponding colors (like the Satisfyer Sweet Treat.) But even in matte black, it’s pretty adorable.

Unfortunately, as I’ve repeatedly learned as a reviewer, looks aren’t everything.

The Gplug Twist is my second toy from Gvibe, a London-based sex toy manufacturer. (My first Gvibe review was for the circular-handled Gpop, a plucky little vibrator designed for both g-spot and prostate stimulation.)

Like the Gpop, the Gplug is packaged in a sturdy cardboard tube. But if you want something less substantial for storage, it also comes with a soft cotton drawstring bag.

The Gplug Twist is a vibrating butt plug. It’s rechargeable via USB, and has a pretty impressive run time on a single charge. I usually forget to plug my toys in after I use them, but the Gplug didn’t die on me even after several uses.

Part of the reason it lasts for so long is that it has a very limited range: 6 settings, with only 1 steady speed. Boo! There’s no gentler consistent speed to use if you’re sensitive, or need a warm-up, or want to take your time and build up to a more powerful setting. I think vibrating sex toys should have at least 3 steady speeds.

The plug compared to the Gpop.

At 1.5 inches in diameter (the width of an average penis or dildo), the Gplug Twist is too big for someone’s very first butt plug. It’s also made of super firm silicone, and the lack of give makes it feel even girthier in use. The Gplug’s width and intense shape are suited to moderately experienced users.

The swirls that make the Gplug so visually interesting are intended to add ribbed pleasure to insertion and wear. The swirl’s bumps rub and stretch your sphincter as you push the plug in, and then presumably tease as you move while wearing it.

our experience with the twist

My partner and I wanted to love this plug. Unfortunately, we didn’t.

The Gplug Twist’s super firm silicone is a lot to adjust to. My partner uses much larger butt plugs (up 2.4’ in diameter), but most of them are squishy or at least medium-firm with some yield. There’s absolutely no yield to the Gplug Twist.

For Buster, the rigidity makes the Gplug Twist awkward and often painful to insert. They can only enjoy the process if they use a much bigger plug or dildo first to fully loosen their hole. Warming up with fingers – our usual go-to – isn’t enough.

The swirls are so tightly lined that it doesn’t feel like a rippling wave as Buster was hoping. Instead it’s more like a quick series of somewhat uncomfortable tugs. If you go slowly (either twisting it in as the product listing suggests, or inserting it straight), you can discern the ridging more. But Buster’s butt wasn’t too keen on the silicone’s draggy matte texture either.

It wasn’t all bad, though.

The Gplug Twist has a thin neck, which allows the wearer’s sphincter to fully relax after inserting the plug. This means you won’t be distracted by your asshole stretching/straining while wearing it (a sensation some folks enjoy – but not Buster.) Since they don’t have to bear down to keep the plug from straining to pop out, they can wear it longer.

I also absolutely love the Gplug’s base. Because they fit unobtrusively between the cheeks, t-shaped bases tend to be more comfortable in general – but that’s especially true for wearers with large butts like mine or my partner’s. The Gplug Twist’s smooth, round-edged bar base also works well with lengthy sessions or moving around.

Wearing the Gplug Twist is… fine, for awhile. Its texture doesn’t add much stimulation-wise once it’s inserted. We had to regularly reapply our favorite water-based lube because the firm silicone will rub you raw, and longer-lasting silicone lube can’t be used with silicone toys.

In the end, between the itchy but mild vibrations and the occasional jab from the plug’s pointed tip when Buster moves around, none of our test sessions ended on a positive note. The Gplug Twist is simply not for us.

final thoughts on the gplug twist

There are no doubt folks out there who love firm plugs with a lot of texture. But I’m not sure I’d recommend the Gplug Twist to them, because regardless of how I feel about its shape, I’m still disappointed in how limited its vibration range is.

For $66 USD (the same price as the much more versatile Gpop) the Twist is just too much for too little.

That being said, I think Gvibe is on the right track with the shape of the Gplug Twist’s base. It’s so comfortable! The Gplug Bioskin – Gvibe’s smooth-bodied, squishy butt plug – has the same base. In hindsight, maybe I should have played it safe and tried the Gplug Bioskin instead.

If you have a steelier bum than mine, you can find the Gplug Twist on Gvibe’s own website. Mine reached me in just a few days!
